Mexican Kitchen: Freemantle, AUSTRALIA

Well, this must be the most uninspiring name ever... but at least it is sort of descriptive! You are definitely getting Mexican food here!

Anyway, we dropped into this place after a long hot sightseeing tour in Freemantle... the kids were complaining, and they were hungry... but not hungry... and thirsty... but not really thirsty. We had food and water with us, but they didn't want what we had... so, in the end, we stopped to sit in the shade of a restaurant, and got some drinks and a few little snacks. Actually, if I had to tell the truth, I also wanted to sit down and have a cool drink as well!

The Space

We haven't had lots of Mexican food outings before... but lots of the places do seem to have this quite distinct style... lots of colour, and lots of interesting Mexican traditional stuff strewn everywhere. It is a weird sort of chaos, but sort of nice...

Ahhh... lots of familiar sounding things, but I'm definitely sure that it wouldn't be the sorts of things that you get from the supermarkets. Every time I got to a proper Mexican place, I'm quite astounded by how good the food is!

And I love the soft tacos... every single time, I will get them now... I have no idea why the hard taco shells took off to be the most recognisible thing!

The Food

Mmmmmm... soft tacos for my wife and I... each with a different filling. Two of them were quite spicy, and so the kids were kept away from our delicious food!

... but the kids had these nachos to keep them quiet. I think that this was one of the first times that they had had proper nachos, and now they want to make them all the time at home! And we do oblige, it is an easy oven meal, and you can make it pretty decently at home... especially if you have time to make fresh guacamole.

The Experience

We only stopped in briefly for a quick snack... this place seems to be more of a bar/cantina rather than a restaurant for families. It did serve the purpose on the day that we were there, it wasn't too busy... but the tables were weirdly sticky, and I gather it is the sort of place that probably sees quite a lot of nightlife activity.

That said, the food was decent, and it was a nice welcome break from the heat of the outside!
