Thanksgiving 2021 - Thursday

My normal wake up time of 5am gave me time to get my posts done for the day and to get my chapter written before we went out to soak. Over 52k words now and will pass 55k most likely today. It had tried to snow a little but only dusted the farm, the few inches we got the other day is still melting off as the rains come through.

The big turkey got pulled from the bucket o brine and then into the oven for much of the day. I had cut up the loaf of bread for the breadcrumbs and they went on a cookie sheet below the turkey to dry out.

The boys were jump roping in the living room with J using a real one and R using a scarf. My hovering children. Or is the Hoovering children. Both work in this case since they are perpetually hungry.

The table got setup in the living room and I hauled a 28 pound pumpkin in to cut up for the pie. I hacked the thing in half and @stryeyz cut a bunch of it up and got it cooking in a kettle on the stove.

Since we used up the loaf of bread I got another one going in the bread maker as it takes it a few hours to finish.

Jax has learned to pull his front feet under him when we are playing as I like to toe stomp him. This makes him look like a caterpillar or worm from above.

The pumpkin took a while to cook but after an hour it had softened sufficiently.

The stuffing got cooked in the crock on the counter since there wasn't room in the oven.

A tray of potatoes went in on a rack over the turkey and they baked for a while as we soaked mid day.

We soaked for a while, less than an hour, as we had to keep working on the food.

Not long after getting in we watched someone get pulled over on the highway and they pulled in next t the building on the corner and we watched them get their Thanksgiving day speeding ticket.

Not long after soaking the turkey was done and got pulled out to cool and rest.

The potatoes all got chopped up and I mashed them in a bowl with the skins on.

The loaf of bread finished in the bread maker and got wrapped in a towel and set on the counter to cool.

@stryeyz made the pie crust then filling and had it baking while we ate.

These are purple yams and they are SUPER rich but SUPER delicious. Figures out the whole cranberry sauce and the purple yam tastes amazing together.

The plate of food that nearly caused me to go into a food coma. Amazingly delicious and the five of us had a great meal.

The evening soak did not last super long for me as I fell out and was asleep before 9pm.

Today I stay here with the boys while @stryey and my mom go up to Sandpoint where there is likely going to be FAR FAR less people than in Spokane. They'll be kicking off small business Saturday a day early. I have at least another chapter to write on my story so will get through it today which will hopefully finish the first draft. The rest of the pumpkin needs to get cut up and something done with it, maybe puree it for soup.

Looks like a lovely meal! And a soak in the middle of cooking too!

What an excellent meal. Nice going. You know you've done it right when the food coma sets in.😊
