After a relatively long day (for me) working in the yard, I fixed me a relatively nice supper (more on that in a minute)
His Majesty Crown Prince Tommy of Assholia deigned to allow himself to rest across my legs for a while before I shut down for the night.
Sadly, my garden is about done and due to some family issues I've not begun planting a "winter garden" which I had planned to do for the first time this year.
But I have a Plethora of banana peppers and Poblano peppers still on the bushes.
Who knew that a Poblano, left on the bush would eventually turn red? Not me said the little green pig.
I actually found one down at the back next to the fence a month ago that was as red as that square line and beginning to go bad.
These TWO TOMATOES cost me about $7, when you consider I bought 3 new plants late and this is all I have to show for it
If I can keep the yard man from cutting the vine, I MAY get a watermelon (there are two in this pic, but the one at the back looks like it is going bad already)
Okra still coming in drips and dribbles
But who the hell told them to grow so tall?
I have to bend them over, fearing a break to be able to harvest those pods
This Basil is going to seed and I'm tired of pruning off the blossoms to prevent it. I have other plants that are not blooming.
The banana peppers have been prolific, I've given away tons, I have some of both banana and poblano in a plastic bag covered in water and frozen. Don't know how that will work.
There are only so many peppers a day a man can eat don'cha know?
I'm very pleased with the splash of color the zinnia's provide. Next year I'll take better care of them: These were a last minute idea
That Elephant Ear will get moved, but here I have Rosemary, Lemon Oregano and Sweet Basil, all of which I use in cooking (the kitchen is just the other side of that wall)
I bought back the China cabinet that was my mothers and I grew up with
Now I have a place to keep my dishes other than the counter top
I went last week to the Salvation Army Family Thrift store, I found this dining table and four chairs. They are extremely heavy and I had to make two trips in my little Kia Soul
(first meal on the table, I hadn't gotten the chairs yet)
Here is why they are all so heavy
All that is wrought iron
I think the was the first full meal after I got it all in here, notice the center piece?
For some time now, I've had a hankering for some turnip greens.
At Kroger I bought the last of the "Purple Turnips" they had (just the roots) peeled and cut then up.
After browning some bacon in the pot, I added the diced roots
Then I added this fairly large can of canned turnip greens
I took out ONE porkchop (it is pure hell cooking for one person)
I dried it with a towel, seasoned with S&P then
Used some of this and cooked it in my air fryer
Those peppers in the jar are some I put up
So there you have it. My Foodie update for Oct 4th
