Good day Hivers! Another day for a sugar thirsty morning. Who is with me for an early dessert or merienda? 😊 Please bear with me as we go for today's baking preparation.
Let's start! ❣
Ingredients:
For Butter Pie Crust Dough:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
- ½ tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp table salt
- ½ lb COLD unsalted butter (2 sticks) diced into small blocks
- 6-7 tablespoons of cold water
For the pie fillings:
- The prepared crust in the fridge
- 2 ¼ lbs Granny Smith Apples peeled, cored 6-7 apples or any apples on hand ( thinly sliced )
- 4 pieces medium size of bananas sliced thinly
- 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg (optional but it enhances the flavour of the pie)
- ½ tsp cloves ( optional but it also enhances the flavour of the pie )
- 8 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg + 1 Tbsp fresh milk or water, for egg wash to brush on top of the pie crust
Prepare all the ingredients to create the pie crust. Cut the butter into small blocks and be sure it's now soft after chilled.
Blend all the dry ingredients including the butter until its texture turns like crumbs. Make sure that the flour and butter has been mixed evenly.
Slowly add small amount of cold water. Don't pour it at once but estimate it that the mixture won't be too gooey or dry. I utilized 5 tablespoons of cold water.
Be certain that the dough reach the perfect texture but don't knead. Just form the dough into a circle and wrap it with a cling film and put it in the chiller for atleast 1 hour for it to set.
While waiting for the dough to set, let's now prepare the pie's sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter then pour the all purpose flour. Now, add the sugar and water, and allow the sugar to melt until it turns into a syrup.
Now pour the sliced apples, followed by the spices, then stir thoroughly. After mixing it well, turn off the heat and let it cool for a while. Don't wait for the sauce to boil.
After an hour, remove the chilled dough from the chiller and we can start flattening it. On a working table sprinkled with flour or wiped with oil, put the dough and cut in half. Flatten the half.
Flatten the dough depending to the size of the baking tray. You can also use the rolling pin to form the dough into a circle so that it'll be easy for you to transfer it onto a baking pan.
Set the flattened dough into the pan and it's up to you how you'll gonna make for the edges. Preheat the oven for atleast 10 minutes to its maximum temperature then after 5 minutes, you can switch it to 200°C or 400°F.
Assuming that the flattened dough has now set, prick all throughout the bottom surface of the dough using fork but be careful not to make it through the surface that it'll leave a hole. Now spread the sliced banana but be sure to leave a half of it to be used later.
Now pour the apple mixture into the dough and evenly spread it. Then after, add the remaining sliced banana on top and set aside.
Now we will consume the remaining half of the chilled dough. Flatten it and cut into strips ( I obtained 10 strips ). Use pizza or dough slicer. Be sure that the size is enough for our baking pan.
Now put the stripped dough onto the pool of apple mixture based on your style. You can use an egg pie style or the braided one just like mine, and seal the edges by pinching it.
Wipe the top surface with an egg wash and put it into the preheated oven.
Set the oven to 200°C or 400°F for the first 15 minutes then switch it to 170°C or 350°F for 45 minutes to cook.
And this is now our finished product! 😉 Let it cool for couple of minutes before serving.
Happy eating everyone!

As I'm so in love with photography and already had have various collections of #food , #animals , #nature , #plants , #travel , #sunsets , #sunrise , and so much more, I want to share all of them for the world to see how so blessed we are to still have the chance to get hold of them and take a good look at them. We may have seen them everyday but what's the great things when it comes to God's creation was that it stays unique on each of every days.
I hope to see one of yours and it will be my pleasure to upvote it once seen worthy. 😍🥰

Apples and banana, this is a good combination. I am a big fan of apple pies, they are so delicious and healthy
