Flipping and Flapping For Food Fight Friday

Flipping and flapping all week long and it's finally time for another round of Food Flinging Food Fight Friday night!

Tuna & Blackberry Crumpet Stack to calm the frayed nerves!

I'm still fighting with our BnB insurers for Business Interruption Loss due to Covid19, despite our insurer supposedly being SA's leading insurer whose yellow umbrella will open up immediately trouble arises - sadly not true!
All my fellow South Africans take note and beware of that yellow umbrella!

However, we now have a group of over 200 other BnB's and guesthouses who've been offered a lifeline by an old firm of attorneys, so looks like we will be compensated after all but it will take time!

I've had enough with having to scan and extract evidence of previous years' bookings - invoices, payments, guest registers; asking guests to email us the reason for their cancellations - this infectious Coronavirus and not mention the word lockdown as there is no such word in our policy! I further had to provide evidence that the virus indeed was within a 50km radius of our property which was easy as Durban is the epicentre of the virus in our province as per online news reports; I however feel sorry for guesthouses in the countryside as that will not be so easy to prove for them!

No guessing that once this claim is finalised, we'll be moving to another lesser known insurer who does not have a yellow umbrella but did not let their clients down!

Simple comfort food tonight as things have been a tad too much for me this week; a plate of crumpets/flapjacks/pancakes that I enjoy with apricot jam, cheese & butter.

Just when we thought the fight was over for our son who's been stuck in Russia due to their lockdown and our country's slow response in arranging a repatriation flight from Russia, another disappointiong blow came tonight!
IMG20200612WA0003.jpg
Due to fly this evening and as they were about to board, they were told the flight's been canceled due to a problem with the plane which was still on the runway in Frankfurt! Many South Africans were already on board the plane in Frankfurt from where the flight was departing; so tonight they're all spending the night in Frankfurt and my son and other fellow South Africans in Moscow hoping the plane's door will be fixed so they can fly back home tomorrow. Quite a scary thought that this was the problem!
IMPORTANT EDIT ABOUT THIS FLIGHT
My son arrived safely on South African soil this morning and told me the true story about that flight in Frankfurt.
All the South Africans abroad had formed a WhatsAapp group and when the repatriation flight details were announced, some who were stranded in Europe took it on themselves to pay for the flight without getting clearance from the Embassy. Repatriation flights are not booked online, so if people find payment details on a group such as this and try to do their own thing by not getting the required clearances, overbooking can easily happen.
These people did self check-ins and boarded the flight, but when the airline realised what had happened, they obviously had to devise a plan to get everyone off the flight and do proper checks and so the flight only took off the next day! These people were kind of highjacking the flight and many passengers waiting to board the flight in Moscow would have forfeited their seats!
Talk about pandemodium in Frankfurt, passengers in Moscow flipping their lids plus anxious family back home!

But enough of my complaints so let's start this Food Fight Friday and let our hair down for a change; we're all in need of that after this horrid year!

Typical Friday Fish & Chips here in our home; we can order food online again and have it delivered so some things are back to normal!

It's time for the Sardine run here on the East Coast of Africa and although we can't get onto the beaches, it's still possible to get some of these silvery delights from the ocean through commercial fishermen. A tiny oily fish in a crispy batter, a really delicious treat!

With all my moaning and groaning I forgot all about sharing hubby's hearty breakfast with you; Scrambled Eggs, Avocado, Sausages & Bacon; gota treat your man every so often not so!

And that's all for this week friends, hope to bring the Food Fight Friday gang overseen by @jlsplatts a feast soon as our son should be home soon, but still has to go into a 14 day quarantine facility when he gets back to South Africa!

Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

Why does your food always and always look so appetizing?!? 😋 Even the plating looks exquisite and delectable! How could someone not want to fight for it? 😛

Have a pleasant weekend ahead!

We really hope so as well @gingbabida!
Thank you so much for the kind comments, I'd love to share a meal with you;)
Our son's flight finally took off last night so should be back on SA soil soon after a long wait!
Hope you're having a great weekend too.

Hahaha! 😅 You are already virtually sharing meals with us @lizelle.

How does your government deal with those coming from overseas? Are they quarantined when they arrive?

Yes, my son arrived safe and sound this morning. They were taken to a very good hotel where they will be quarantined for 14 days, the government pays for that at least, we only had to pay for the flight. They obviously will be tested for Corona before being allowed to go home at the end of the period.

Oh, that's good. Hopefully their condition there is not extreme. I have read a post of the quarantine situation in Australia, and it's terrible. They only have 15 minutes a week of breathing fresh air. Imagine?!? I really, really hope that that is not the case in your place.

Take care, and enjoy your Sunday. ❤

Yeah insurance companies are really reluctant to help out when they need to.
I love the fish and chips pictured here. I think Australia has got fish and chips down to a fine art.

We'll definitely be leaving this insurer once everything is settled, it costs an arm and a leg to have specific bnb insurance and then they try and manipulate wording, will move to a smaller insurer who did not look for excuses to pay out in a time of crisis!
I've seen the Aussie fish & chips, looks amazing!

I hope it all works out for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

This vegan has to find a way to make vegan fish and chips. All that food looks soooo yummy.

I'm sure you'll be able to pull off an amazing vegan fish and chips @carolynstahl, you're a magician in the kitchen!
