Filipino Delicacy!

So I was really bored and come to think that I would love to make sweetened rice or in Tagalog, we call this "Suman". I was craving all day long because it is my favorite Filipino delicacy when I was a child.

***************************

I start off with preparing the ingredients:
  • 4 cups of white glutinous rice
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cans of coconut milk (27 ounces)
  • Never forget the banana leaves for wrapping

***************************

Let's start making one!

  1. So all we need is a heavy pot
  2. Rinse the glutinous rice well make sure it is well-drained.
  3. Put the ingredients in the heavy pot (4 cups of glutinous rice, 1 cup of sugar, 27 ounces of coconut milk, and 1 1/4 teaspoon of salt.)
  4. After putting it all together simmer it for around 45 minutes in medium heat. All you have to do is stir it until the rice becomes sticky and almost look dry.
  5. Before wrapping it make sure the temperature is low.
  6. Prepare all the banana leaves and make your own size of banana leaves the one that you preferred.
  7. Scoop the rice with the right amount then put it on the banana leaves.
  8. Then start folding the banana leaves and making sure to cover all the rice mixture.
  9. Once you're done doing all of it. Prepare the steamer and put it on a single layer then steam it for almost 50 minutes with medium heat.
  10. After that let the temperature cool down then serve it with sugar or honey syrup.

***************************

So the honey syrup was brought by my dad in the market. All I know is that honey syrup is just like the honey is heated and there is sugar on it. Not to mention this Filipino delicacy also fits with sugar. Eat wisely or else diabetes could hit you! :)

Yesss! Suman. Really delicious and you can practically eat at any time of the day. Suman for breakfast with black coffee! Why not?! Haha. In Batangas, we prepare our suman with enough sugar that we dont need to serve it with extra sugar or honey on top.

It would have been nicer if you showed us some process pics, but nonetheless the procedures are clearly written and would be easy for us to follow.

It was unexpected po kasi 😅 Out of nowhere my mom called me to help her with making of the suman. At the end of the process the product na lang itself na pic ko. Hopefully po sa susunod may pics na hehe.

Gusto ko itong subukang gawin, di pa ako nkagawa nito..
