What was your most disappointing cafe/restaurant experience?
The other day, I traveled for almost an hour through traffic only to find out the place I was visiting was closed. It’s not like I didn’t check. I was doing a simple check anyone would do, checking it on a google map. I relied on it thinking that it was 8 AM on a random Thursday and even based on google maps, they were already open.I arrived at the place at 11 AM as I was doing some other things. Unfortunately, as I arrived there, the place was closed and I was only greeted by a chonky gray cat in front of the building. I started thinking where to go next because I was already quite far away. So, I ended up going to Starbucks, the nearest place I know and on top of my mind. Anyhow, this is just one story of an incident from my cafe/roaming for roasts adventure. There are many more stories that I will eventually tell. Now, feel free to share your most disappointing experience too.
Although I often go to a place without much expectations, sometimes I started the day enthusiastically knowing I would drink good coffee but voila, life often has better plans. So, I decided not to go anywhere from that point and waited until the next day. I found a place where their specialty is chocolate and coffee. I found out that in the place, they serve chocolate as a mug of milk/coffee of our preference. I never have them so I thought it’s going to be quite a treat.
Alcoholic divine cocoa beverage on a random Friday morning
When I arrived there, the place was quite vintage. I didn’t even get to take pictures of the surroundings because the atmosphere wasn’t welcoming enough. There were some people and patrons came with nice cars. So, I was assuming that the place is quiet on the mid-high end spot for hanging out.
The order system in the place was quite unique but a hassle too. First, they don’t have a menu book but rather rely on a QR code menu. Then, you have to enter your Whats app number to receive an OTP just to order. From there, I was quite taken aback that ordering a goddamn hot chocolate would take more than a few steps. It is definitely one of the places that I won’t be visiting anymore. I really just want a straight-forward ordering system without having to share any personal identification such as my number. Luckily, I was using a burner number but can you imagine how many numbers they were able to farm using that system? Who knows what they are going to use it for.
After 20 minutes, my hot Belgian chocolate with rum came. I still didn’t know how much alcohol they put in there but the rum taste was quite noticeable. I quite enjoy alcoholic beverages and I was hoping somewhere around in this city, I can find espresso martini. One thing that was quite intriguing was the spoon made out of chocolate!
For only 27000 IDR or now $1.72 I got a velvety cup of alcoholic chocolate and a spoon made out of chocolate. While pricing here is quite reasonable, I find that some of their main dishes are quite expensive. But since their name and signature is chocolate,pricing for them was quite reasonable. I was happy with the taste of the warming cup of cocoa as well as the hints of rum on it. I think when you have trouble at home in your life, add a little alcohol in your hot cocoa and life will feel good again 😄
I wasn’t staying there for long as though they have AC all around their corner, none of them was cold enough and I was feeling quite uncomfortable being inside. So, I decided that after having my hot cocoa, I would go back and find somewhere else where I could be more productive. I really hope they improved their place because their hot cocoa is actually the bomb. I do recommend this place especially if you enjoy drinking hot cocoa more than coffee or tea. Although the ordering system and the vibe was quite disappointing, it was the decadent cocoa that makes it forgivable and wanting me to try their other menu in their place.

Aaaaaaa that alcoholic hot cocoa beverage is calling me, I'm big fan of chocolate and rum so it is really intriguing to me how it must tastes.
That ordering systems sounds awful, if they want to keep it online they could've make a website and that's it. But well, sometimes you get the better surprises from the worst places
It's super interesting and has quite a kick. It's so weird when they're doing such just to complicate an ordering system. I just hope they could do better because the cocoa rum was really better.

What a shame they complicate the ordering system with so many steps, and the worst thing is that you have to disclose information.
Many times there are businesses that have a good product, like this cup of hot chocolate you mentioned, but the environment or the marketing or ordering system does not match the product.

Why complicate a working and easy ordering system. I don't understand why they have to do that. But I agree just the look at that Begian chocolate with rum is satisfying. 😋
😁They have some other menu like white chocolate too and they looked really good. I kinda want more and hoping I could visit the place but for this week, I had way too much sugar already.
