Far across the ocean, the Latin American atmosphere is often associated with bold, vibrant colors and intricate decorative interior. While this association holds true for many architectural interior decor in the region, Bolívar is a unique place which opted for intriguing twist in their decor. Rather going with the conventional orange and yellow color schemes, they picked refreshing green palette which matches very well with the overall aesthetic of the building. Their tiling was also beautifully designed adorned with floral patterns. It exudes an authentic Latin American vibe which reminded me of the numerous Latin-inspired places I've had the pleasure of visiting.

This coffee shop has such a simple yet comfy atmosphere that could make you stay there for hours. During my visit, they also decorated their interior with Halloween accessories, a proof to the festive spirit that runs through the town's numerous cafes who also celebrate it. Overall, The combined effect of the green decor and seasonal accessories creates a distinctive and memorable experience.

Inside Bolívar, you'll discover a collection of coffee-themed paintings on its walls. Such as the above painting that I featured. In this coffee shop, it has 4 spots that we can choose, from the main buiding, outdoor area, another semi-indoor and the 2nd floor of the building.

Since I was looking for a place to hide from the sun, the main building was cold enough for me to sit down for a while and drinking the coffee. It was also the best spot as the Wifi was pretty fast in the place.

As the name, this coffee shop also offers selection of coffee with interesting name. They have La Palma and El Fuerte, with the latter being their specialty The difference between both is that La Palma was a single shot espresso while El Fuerte was a double shot offering more caffeine kick. They also sell Churros with chocolate sauce and various meals from rice options to snacks. I ended up getting la palma because it was my first coffee of the day and I wanted something light, just a single espresso while journaling and being lazy on a Saturday afternoon. While they made my coffee, I was roaming around and found this Halloween Themed Painting on their outdoor areas.

The painting has everything that screams Halloween and was quite a sight. I love the color of the painting and it’s intricacies. I looked at the painting for a while then I observed other areas in the place. When I was there, most of the areas were empty but when the clock reached around 3PM, I saw people in group starting to occupy the place.

One thing to note is that, in this place, the coffee is half-self-served. You will be given the machine that beeps and you have to take your own coffee and food. There are a minimal staff in this place. One is the barista and another is the helper. While the areas is quite big, I can’t imagine when it gets quite busy.

While I was there and journaling, I was also playing Tuyo by Rodrigo Amarante It’s my current music that I played on loop and even more so, it was so fitting with the atmosphere of the cafe. It makes me feel like I was transformed in one of Latam countries, having coffee and just enjoying a nice Saturday.

The coffee itself was priced reasonably and in fact, I would say, an average price of coffee shop with similar themed. I have been curious of the place for a while now because of the name and the architecture. Now, I wasn’t finally curious of this place but I only wish that they would stick the Latin American vibe that they’re trying to do. By that I mean, they would be better if they added some more Latin American menu instead a mix of Indonesian and Thai food on their rice option. I have to admit that their churros were really good. It was classic as it was showered with cinnamon sugar and the chocolate was just right. I have tried many churros but that one was the best I’ve had so far. But still, I really wished they have more Latin American menu like the one I had in laos, when I visited a Chilean restaurant.

Before leaving the place, I was also ordering their caramel macchiato. I needed my second coffee as recently my french press broke down and I could only make a small batch of coffee with my machine. Well, their caramel macchiatowasn’t as good as their La palma but since I needed something cold and sugary, it was alright. I think that not everyone can really pull of Caramel Macchiato. To be fair, this cafe would not be something too special had it not been the atmosphere and vibe. I think that it was the comfiness and distinct vibe that sells of this place. Do I want to go back there? Maybe because I wasn’t really convinced of the coffee nor the menu options. It wouldn’t be a spot that I would frequent but if I ever run out good places to go, I would love going back as again, it wasn’t good nor bad. So-so was all I got from my experience there.

The machiati, it that synonymous to your own name?

yep!

Enjoy your day and have fun to the fullest

Yeah, I can totally understand your choices. I mean it's good if a cafe has a nice ambience and all of that but every café needs something that makes it truly special and if this one lacked that and especially in something as as crucial as the menu, then that's okay.

😄When it comes to FnB, I personally think menu is way more importance than the ambience itself. It shouldn't be the other way round when the menu is lacking but it was the place that sells hehe.

Interesting place. I wonder if the owners are from Venezuela or Colombia (we associate the word Bolivar with either country). Are there many Latin American people in Indonesia?

There are a few of them here and Latin America are the country where Indonesian can visit without visa too 😄 and same as them. It's why, eventhough it's far away but closely connected. The owners of these places aren't necessarily from those countries although some are. Maybe they just traveled to those country and was inspired from it? I went to a restaurant that are Venezuelan owned a few years ago, it was interesting place too.

Very interesting. Here we too have locals running asian or european cousine restaurants just out of admiration for those cultures. I guess it works both ways

It is! the only problem to travel to part of the world for many of us is just that we need a layover in EU which requires a visa 😂 but once we're in the South, we can go anywhere for around 30 to even 90 days in one country.
