Kedai Sufie : Coffee Bar Selling Rare Coffee

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago

A coffee bar with a creative space serving variety selection of finest coffee from Indonesia's mountain.

When many of the cafes I visited and reviewed often focuse on its place, Kedai Suffie offers a quite different experience.

Located 30 minutes away from the main city, this coffee shop is a hidden gem for those coffee lovers who truly love coffee. They only focuses on selling coffee from different mountains accross the country. Not only that, they also sells allegedly the rarest coffee variant in the world called "excelsa". This coffee belongs to Liberica plant. The caffeine concentration of liberica beans is the lowest of the three cultivars, with 1.23 g/100 g, where Arabica has 1.61 g/100 g and Robusta has 2.26 g/100 g.. I really recommend you to try this coffee that has a slight jackfruit aroma. In the same link attached, you will learn a bit of history about this plant as well. It's quite interesting. So, if you claim to be coffee lovers, go read it.

In this place, you can also satisfy your curiousity about coffee and even saw some roastery equipments, fresh beans, and also drip coffee tools. The owner is a couple who have been in this coffee business for a while. The wife was very outgoing and knowledegable. I got the chance to talk to her and we were talking about the coffee industry and also how to brew the perfect cup of coffee drip.

The wife, who is also the barista in this place explained to me that she wanted to highlight the local coffee. This is also where I learned that Exelsa coffee is one of the rarest variety in the world. Then later at home, I googled and read more about it. She made the cafe menu to highlight mountain varieties as you can see below.

Interesting Find (Traditional Food and Culture)

Another thing that interest me is the food stall called "angkringan". This is commonly found in Central Java and Yogyakarta. And that's another thing I learn about this place, the owner tries to mimic those two provinces atmosphere. When speaking about ambience and culture, these places are known to be a place where philosophical discussion happening. I suppose, it's really a great thing and based on the google reviews, visitor love the place because visiting there, they feel like they are intellectually challenged through either the open forum or the movie night organized by this place.

The menu of Angrkringan is quite traditional and simple. It basically sells chicken parts in skewers. In the philippines, I think they are called Isaw.

In that place, I also tried Grilled rice or "Nasi Bakar" as the local calls it. Basically, it is rice wrapped in leaves with anchovies and vegetables. The fillings varies but anchovies is the common one. Then, before serving the rice, it will be grilled for like 2 minutes. I normally don't like this type of food but in that place, it was quite flavorsome.

And the highlight of this visit would be the siphon coffee maker. I think after getting a manual grinder, siphon coffee maker is something I would like to have. The owner was about to serve me the coffee and showed me how it works.Yet,unfortunately they were running out of the fuel.

I was so intrigued because I wonder if I could extract other things than just coffee. I also wonder the difference of the taste when it comes to using that coffee maker. Does it create better extraction? have any of you tried it? if so, let me know.

I also add this place into Pinmapple. You could have your own personal list of places where you've visited. I find it really handy because if someone is going to visit the place I have visited, I could forward them my article that I can find from the pinmapple map. That way my friends, colleagues, or acquaintances could prepare a thing or two.
