We're back with another foodie post! Now that there are close to zero covid restrictions in Singapore, we are completely free to try out different food places again!
This time I'll share something a little different; it's a drink or arguably a dessert place instead of a food place! Although boba/bubble tea is still a pretty common drink here in Singapore, many alternatives have been vying for popularity like fruit juices, milk shakes etc. And one recent trend that is gaining momentum is coconut and/or avocado shakes!
I guess there's been a global avocado craze ever since avocado toast became a popular brunch item a few years ago, but recently these avocado shakes have became quite popular here with many new chains popping up in malls around Singapore!
Sean had tried a shake from one such chain here known as Serious Fresh and he told me it was good so we decided to try it out one day while we were shopping in the mall! Since I'd never tried avocado before (it's pretty expensive here as a fruit), it seemed like a good chance.
Serious Fresh boasts freshly made, delicious and healthy premium beverages and offer familiar local favorites revolving around tropical and seasonal fruits! And they seem pretty serious about it if the bear mascot is anything to go by! And of course they specialise in Serious Avocado shakes!
But their menu also features other fruits as well like their Serious Coconut series and also special fruit teas!
Thankfully there wasn't a queue when we went by and we placed an order for their Okinawa Avocado Shake which contains Okinawa Brown Sugar with avocado!
This outlet in particular is very unique in that you'd think that it's just a small little shophouse kinda store from this angle:
But there's actually a whole other side to the store! It was definitely a lot bigger than I thought when I first looked at it.
And the storefront that looks like a shophouse is actually part of the mall's interior design to make it look like old Singaporean shopping streets!
This was my first time to this particular mall so I was quite impressed with the design; marrying old design styles with new and modern architecture always intrigues me so I was pleasantly surprised when we came down here!
Anyway, just like any other boba shop, after ordering we got our receipt with a queue number on it and waited by the pick up counter for our number to show up on the screen. While waiting, we admired the baristas in their work and eagerly waited for our drink to be prepared!
You could even see all the different toppings they had available!
A few orders later, our number was finally called, and we got our drink!
We tried to mix in the Okinawa sugar with the avocado shake as best we could, and it turned out pretty yummy! It was my first time trying actual avocado, and I was surprised that it was pretty pleasant since it didn't seem like I was going to like it. It did taste really fresh indeed and quite healthy for sure. Although the brown sugar syrup didn't mix as well as I had hoped it still tasted alright and gave the shake a bit more flavour other than just avocados.
Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good drink and definitely worth trying if you like avocados or if you want something healthier than bubble tea but sweeter than water. Give it a try if you can!
