Homemade Pizza from Scratch

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago

Hello Hivers, I hope you are hungry today, because I prepared for you this amazing recipe for homemade pizza made from scratch, including the dough that has honey in it.

It's filled with fresh ingredients and there will be a few extra tips and tricks I learned along the way, to make it even better. So if you are a pizza lover, let's go!

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 500g flour
  • Splash of vegetable oil
  • Yeast
  • Salt and sugar (or honey)
  • 250ml of water

For the pizza topping:

  • 250g of cheese
  • Tomato sauce or ketchup (I used homemade tomato sauce)
  • 1 pack of mushrooms
  • Meat of your choice
  • Olives
  • Oregano
  • 2 eggs (optional)

Preparation:

Like most people I love pizza, and I remember the disappointment when I tried one in Italy thinking it will be the best one I ever had. Probably, because I am used to pizza being overflowing with ingredients, that one tasted a bit bland.

First of all, I made the dough, with huge help from my husband who mastered this skill long time ago. You should mix the yeast with water and sugar to allow it to react a bit, before mixing it with the rest of the ingredients. You can add a bit of honey instead of sugar, and the pizza will taste and smell amazing.

We have a bread maker and that is where we mix the dough, it's easier because the temperature is perfect for the dough to rise and it's way less messy this way. While the machine is doing it's job, I prepared the ingredients for the topping.

First, as any pizza lover knows, a good dough needs a good tomato sauce. I am lucky, because I have homemade one that my mother made, without any preservatives added and no sugar. I would simply add oregano, salt and a bit of pepper to it, to make the perfect taste.

After that, I cleaned and sliced the mushrooms (I used champignon), grated all the cheese. You can't really add too much cheese if you ask me, the more the better. Then the meat, I had some prosciutto on hand and used that one, it was perfectly salty and complimented the rest of the ingredients perfectly.

All that was left is to wait for the dough, while I cleaned up the mess in the kitchen. I rolled the dough thin and placed it in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. You should preheat the oven to it's max power, in my case 280c. The pizza should be baked fast and at high temperature.

On the dough, I spread the toppings in this order:

  • Tomato sauce
  • Cheese
  • Meat
  • Mushrooms
  • Eggs and oregano

This way the cheese is going to be in the middle, all melted and perfect for serving. Add the eggs if you like and sprinkle some oregano on top for that extra kick of flavor.

In the oven it goes for 12-15 minutes, keep an eye on it and don't let it burn. The crust should be nice and golden brown, so it would be crunchy in opposite to soft filling. I don't bake the olives because I like the taste better when I add them after it's baked.

And there you go, a little piece (or two) of heaven on your plate. Full taste, fresh ingredients and the joy that you made something from scratch.

With love,
Tamara
