mitten in der Nacht sechs Füchse im Ort angekommen wären. Der
Jagdleiter Franz Tommerl trommelte alle seine Waidgenossen beim Wirt
zum schwarzen Ochsen zusammen. Er war nicht nur Jagdleiter, sondern
auch Bürgermeister und daher wusste er, dass der römische Kaiser
nach einem Fuchs namens Reineke fahnden ließ. Nach einem
Fuchs wurde gesucht, hier ging es aber um sechs an der Zahl! Na gut,
die vier Kleinen brauchte man nicht rechnen, aber dann blieben immer
noch zwei! Die Jäger konnten zwar den Kaiser Nero nicht leiden,
aber sie wollten es sich mit ihm auch nicht verscherzen. Also
beschlossen sie, den größeren der beiden erwachsenen Füchse zu
fangen und nach Rom zu bringen. Aber von Reineke wurde behauptet,
dass er möglicherweise ein Holzfuchs sei, und da war Vorsicht
geboten! Holzfüchse sind gefährlicher als Wölfe und besonders
schlau! Aber wie fängt man einen Holzfuchs? Bei den Hasen ist es
einfach, denen muss man bloß Salz auf den Schwanz streuen. Das hilft aber
bei Holzfüchsen überhaupt nicht! Die stehen nur auf Manner-Wafferl!

catch and bring to Rome. But it was claimed by Reineke that he might be a wood fox, and there was caution commanded! Wood foxes are more dangerous than wolves and especially smart! But how do you catch a wood fox? It is with the rabbits simply, you just have to sprinkle salt on their tail. But that helps not at all with wooden foxes! They only like Manner waffles!
Der Tommerl präparierte also ein Wafferl mit einem starken Schlafmittel
und legte es dann an eine Stelle, wo Reineke vorbeikommen musste,
nämlich auf den Weg zu seinem Gänsestall! Und die Falle schnappte
zu. Reineke packte das Wafferl und weg war er. Aber wo war er
hingekommen? Die Nacht verging, der Morgen graute, aber trotz allen
Suchens wurde keiner der Füchse gefunden. Gegen Mittag ging Tommerl
heim und wollte seiner Frau die Geschichte erzählen, aber er konnte
sie nicht wecken, so tief hat sie geschlafen. Warum das so war, das
seht ihr hier:

Fensterbrett gelegt und die hatte es gegessen! Die Füchse aber
hatten beim Herrn Pfarrer um Kirchenasyl angesucht und das auch
bekommen: Kein Wunder, war doch Kaiser Nero ein arger
Christenverfolger! Der Pfarrer versorgte die Fuchsfamilie als ob es
seine eigene wäre und er drückte zum Abschied dem Reineke einen
Brief an König Laurin in die Pfote. Denn durch dessen Rosengarten
würde der weitere Weg in den Großen Vicht führen. Aber davon
erzähl ich euch ein anderes Mal.
