Rainy day yesterday so the day started very early and I made some work in the garden and cut down some olive tree branches.
After that I stayed in and watched again the sandman. It that’s my opinion
In the first 4 episodes I was literally about to fall into Morpheus' arms, ESPECIALLY when he was on screen. And here lies the fundamental problem of the series: yes, bringing the special atmosphere of the comic to the screen is something difficult, BUT making your characters speak very slowly and in a "dark style" CONSTANTLY, with the protagonist playing it post- punk batman does NOT make you achieve that gothic vibe and it's just boring. In fact, Morpheus in the first episodes, I dare say, managed to become irritating, until I managed to get used to him somewhat, although the script helped the actor a lot. In general we are talking about a huge tryhard.
In episode 5, on the other hand, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It's a tremendous quality to have an entire episode in such a small space, with specific characters, and manage to create such a strong episode based almost entirely on the script and secondarily on the actors. Of course David Thewlis was amazing once again and absolutely terrifying (I felt like I was watching Homelander).
And so we come to episode 6, which is simply one of the best episodes I've ever seen... Everything about it. Of course I really liked how they gave us Death on screen, in relation to the comic as well.
The remaining 4 episodes were just an honest OK storyline and nothing more.
"Good and that's not enough for you?"
The series is good, but that's only because it's saved from the script of the comic (most of the script is a copy-paste of the comic) and because Thewlis also carries it to a point. Even Lucifer was just OK. And yes, when after all these years you have Sandman on the screen, you expect something much more, because that's the only way a comic like this would be justified. Because the series is not alone, but it has an amazing story to justify it, and that's the only way it can really be evaluated. So does it manage to make us feel like the comic just by watching the series? Definitely but definitely not. Not
that it's bad.
However, I will watch episodes 5-6 and watch them agai
I love David Thewlis, he did a fantastic job here, and the movie's thriller is top-notch, I watched it countless times before I drop this comment.
The visuals, sounds and actors are all amazing, I can't wait to watch the full movie.
