I remember one time I was asked to give a speech in the my school, I was eleven at the time. As normal I was nervous of standing in front of everyone to talk but I had to because I was selected. I had prepared my speech all by myself and I for an eleven year old, it was articulated properly, necessary quotations and passages that pertains to my topic, possible area closely related to my topic, everything was on point. Fast forward to the D-day, I mounted the podium and I froze.....and when a manage to get words out of my mouth it was all jumbled up
Hi, I'm Abeegail, welcome to my blog, I'm a teen who loves to question and look for a deeper meaning. What is Eloquence? Eloquence is the ability to deliver a clear, strong message, it is simply the ability to be fluent and persuasive. We are never really thought how to be eloquent in speech as kids, especially if you are African, as long as you can read and write. My mom would tell me "you just to be seen and not heard" and I would follow, so I suppressed my voice. There was nothing really wrong with her parenting style , to her if you give a child freedom to talk too much, it will breed disrespect, so you are meant to keep quiet and follow instructions. That's how she was raised and that's how she raised me.
Eloquence is not about dressing your words in fancy english or big word that no one has heard of. It the art of making your words connect in a fluid way, It is the difference between speaking and being heard, it's what makes people want to listen to you. It's a very necessary skill that is often overlooked. Sometimes when you talk is like you're rushing to get all the words out and get it over with but it ends up jumbled up, you struggle to reach for words to express how you feel that's what lack of eloquence is.
From childhood we should practice how to use our voice, speak up and talk about matters that affecting us with ease. It not just about reading and writing but can you talk your way into a mind blowing deal, can you talk your way into getting that job, can you talk your way out of trouble(this one is very important), because at the end of the day no one is not going to be there at every stage of your life to give instructions to follow. I'm still not eloquent as I'd like to be but I'm working on it.
