Student Ups & Downs

in Education2 years ago

Hi there. In this short education post, I talk about the ups and downs of students. It is not realistic to expect students to be on their best behaviour or even be at peak learning performance. We all have our good days and bad days.

Student Lifestyles

The lifestyle for a student can be demanding. In the Toronto area at least school starts around 8:30 AM or maybe earlier. Students would have to wake up around 7PM or 7:30PM to have breakfast, get ready and commute to school. School usually ends at 3PM or later if there are after-school activities.

The school day could be intense for a student. There are days when a student have a lot of things to do and end up being tired when they get home. On some days a student could have a bad night's sleep and would not have much energy throughout the day.

There are also outside of school events for a student that occur. Events like birthdays, concerts, family dinners, meeting with friends and lovers, dealing with conflicts, etc. These events can improve a student's mood positively or negatively.

Sometimes Students Can Be Emotional Or Disrespectful

Young students may not be emotionally mature. There are times when a student may say or do something that is unusual, aggressive, non-intentional and/or out of character. Educators should be mindful of this and be aware of pretty much anything. I once had a young student (age 5 or 6 I think) get angry at me and tried to stab me with a pencil as he wanted something that was not allowed. I had a quick enough reaction to move back and dodge this attack. Some students do get upset if they don't get what they want or think they get free stuff without work. Some students could have a bad day at school and may not want to talk to anyone during an after school activity.

If a student gets negative or behaves in an out of control manner, the chances are is that the student is dealing with something in their life. There is also the possibility that the student could have a condition or have behaviourial issues.
