All of us who work as teachers have certainly done group learning in the classroom. And each of our groups has a task for them to complete and they work on together. In groups, of course, filled with individuals who have different abilities and backgrounds. Not infrequently, the performance of the group runs less than optimal. Active participants tend to dominate all work. So to overcome this, I want to share a technique so that small groups in the learning process can be more effective.

After the teacher decides to make small groups in the learning process, Then the teacher must explain in detail the goals and procedures for teamwork. So that the burden of the group is not only on one person. Instead, all group members have the same responsibility in completing the tasks that have been given to them. For that, the teacher must explain several important points in each group, that in each group each individual has their own role. The roles I mean are as follows.

Techniques for Optimizing Student Performance in Group Learning

  • Researcher
Researchers in groups are individuals who collect background information and look for additional information needed to complete the tasks given by the teacher.

  • Summaries
who will prepare a presentation in front of the class and summarize the conclusions reached to see if the rest of the group agrees.

  • The Runners
No less important than the roles above, the task of the runner is to try to find the resources needed to complete the task, The source in question is in the form of learning tools such as dictionaries or other books related to the topic.

  • observer
Next is observers, these threes play an important role in recording and recording group processes, which can be used during debriefing after group work.

  • Examiner
Group members who are in charge of checking whether the facts that will be used by the group are correct and correct so that they will be ready to answer if their group gets questions from other groups or are ready to be checked by the teacher.

  • Recorder
The last role is recorder. Here the individual who acts as the recorder will write the main output of the group, and synthesize the work of other group members.

The roles that I have summarized above, are simple techniques that we can use to make the small groups we have formed more effective. So that the group's burden is not only how many individuals are active, but the burdens are evenly distributed among all group members. This technique is useful for maximizing group performance, and the knowledge of all group members will be evenly distributed.
