It was a very warm day when Mouse was relaxing in the shade in front of his tree stump home. It was much cooler outside in the shade. Just as Mouse was drifting into dreamland he heard a commotion, looking around, he spotted them in the bushes.
Four ladybugs and one was being made fun of. Mouse now listened to what they were mocking the one lady bug of. “No spots… no spots” they chanted. Mouse had seen and heard enough. He got up and put a stop to the whole mockery. The other ladybugs still laughing and chanting slowly moved on. Leaving Mouse alone with the spotless ladybug, who was still sobbing. “There… there it's ok now" Mouse comforted. The ladybug still sobbing said “No it's not Mr. Mouse I still don't have any spots.”
Mouse led the ladybug back to his tree stump home where they sat looking at the clouds in the sky. Mouse thought hard and long, then got an idea. He decided to go to the farm house to see if they can find spots for the ladybug, who got very excited at the thought of having spots. When they reached the house, Mouse led them through the hole in the old kitchen door. In the kitchen mouse noticed the sweet aroma of baking and knew there would be left over icing on the table from the cake. He noticed the black colored icing from the birthday cake. With any luck, there should be black icing too. Mouse found what he was looking for and lady bug now understood what Mouse was up to. Mouse took some icing in his tiny paws, then started to put spots on ladybug’s spotless wings. It looked pretty good. Ladybug got all exited but then noticed it was way too sticky and he couldn't fly. They cleaned lady bug in the kitchen sink. Then they moved on further into the home to find the kids room to keep looking for ideas. They looked around the kids room when mouse found the pot of black ink. Mouse started again painting on black spots on ladybug, this looked promising. Then later as ladybug looked in the bathroom mirror at his new spots he slipped and fell into a small puddle of water left in the basin. Mouse quickly came to help him. Ladybug was allright but the spots washed off in the water. Ladybug grew weary “this is hopeless” he said with teary eyes. Mouse still not ready to give up cheered him up. “It's not over yet, come on, we'll keep looking"
Mouse led them into another room, this one was an office. Ladybug followed Mouse as he looked around. On the desk he found it: a permanent marker. Now Mouse was convinced he'd found the solution. He picked up the marker and started drawing on the spots for ladybug. “This will work” mouse anounced confidently “It's not sticky like the icing or washes off like the paint”
Afterwards back at the tree stump Mouse sat and happily watched as ladybug could show off his very own spots. “It's been a good day” Mouse thought He learned today to not give up after the first try, you have to keep on trying and in the end you will succeed. Sometimes it may take longer, but, in the end it will be worth it.
