It occurred to me when putting this post together that it's now been almost exactly three years since the amazing guy who originally put together this Power Up Day initiative (known on our legacy chain as #SPUD) went afk. I'm thinking for next month, I might put together a sort of look back at how this all started, and how incredible the growth has been, even in the beariest of bear markets. I figure it would be a cool thing to show @streetstyle if/when he pops by again. Please shout out if there's something you'd like to see in a Power Up Day retrospective (hey, I think I thought of the name of the upcoming post! 😃).
Now the business at hand - while it's still not midnight in my neck of the woods (I'm posting this just before 10pm EST), #HivePUD for June 1st 2023 has already arrived in other parts of the world. If you want a super cool way to check if it's officially in your area according to UTC time (which is how the Hive Buzz badges are determined), be sure to check out the Countdown Timer on the hivebuzz.me site (under the green "Power Up" tab), courtesy of the awesomesauce team at @hivebuzz!
HivePUD TL;DR
- If you want to qualify for the AMAZING Hive Power Up Day badge(s), your power up must happen during the 24 hours of June 1st 2023 according to UTC time.
and/or
- If you want to qualify for the #HivePUD prize pool, your power up and post must happen (according to criteria listed below) during the hours of June 1st 2023, your local time.

I did some tweaking of the 4 traditional HivePUD posts a year ago last month, and back in April 2022 I decided to tweak a bit more by combining the usual first two posts (Announcement & Welcome to HivePUD) into this one that I publish around the first few hours of the start of the first each month. In addition, I'll do some extra signal boosting of the "HivePUD is coming" posts done by others instead, as it seems like it will be the best way to spread the word. 😊And in July 2022, I decided to tweak the rules a bit, for the first time in forever - be sure to check them out below.
Oh and in October, because of the continuing (and awesome) uptick in participation, I tweaked the timeline of the Power Up Day results to give me a couple extra days to put things together after my numbers guy sends me the raw data.
Now, for the basic Power Up Day details...
What is HivePUD?
Hive Power Up Day happens on the first of every month. Those who are able to, take this time to power up some Hive, and/or cancel their power downs and pause trading/selling for the 24 hour span of the day.

What are the rules to win prizes for HivePUD?
UPDATED As of July 2022
The requirements are:
- Your reputation must be above 39 and below 70 and your account must be in good standing with the community.
- Your total HIVE Power (before the 1st) must be more than 100 and less than 8000.
- You must power up at least 10 Hive on June 1st (and must NOT be powering down).
- You must write a post about your power up on June 1st with at least 1 of these 3 tags - #HivePUD (International), #HispanicHPUD (Hispanic), or #HPUD (General) as one of your first 5 tags (tagging only in the body of the post doesn't count).
To be included in the winners list, you must meet all four requirements above. The order of the list (first place, second place, and so on) will be determined by the biggest PERCENTAGE of Hive powered up, not necessarily the most Hive powered up.
Also, while it hasn't been a rule (yet), this initiative has always been geared towards helping individual accounts, not groups or communities. A couple of times over the years, a community has ended up in the top 3, but were not awarded prizes. This is a heads up that next month, I'll be added it to the rules that only individual accounts will be able to qualify.
And to make it clear what's changed about the rules, I've bolded the two bits in rules #1 and #3. I think it's pretty self-explanatory why I've added those in, but please feel free to shout out if you any questions about it.
Oh, and a bit of a clarification as I haven't mentioned it for a minute - your Power Up Day post doesn't have to be just about your power up. You're welcome to just include a bit about it at the beginning/end of an unrelated post. For example, "Here are some pictures of my cute cats and oh yeah, here's a screencap of my power up today." Just be sure it's posted on the first, and has the correct tag(s). 😊
How to get HiveBuzz badges
For details, check their post Hive Power Up Day - November 1st 2022 as well as their Power Up Day Helper Badge post but essentially -
- Power up a minimum of 10 HIVE during the UTC time for the first of the month. Convert your local time to UTC or check the countdown timer on the Hive Buzz site (under the "Challenges" tab) to confirm it's during the first UTC time before you power up.
They've also turned the occasional #HPUM (Hive Power Up Month) into a monthly event all year long! To read more about it, check out their post from the beginning of the year, PUD - PUH - PUM - It's all about to Power Up!
