Science is the best tool we have, but it's just a tool, and all tools can be used incorrectly, as science is currently, by unscrupulous elites and politicians.

Science is how humans question the universe and look to the data received to find out what is true. It can't be untrustworthy. Scientists can be bought. Science can't.

And we should increase our understanding of it, so we're less easily swindled by those preying on our ignorance of science.

A great book on this is The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, by Carl Sagan. He wrote it in the early 90s, just before he died.

I could quote 100 relevant parts, but here's one of the best:

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness."

So many intelligent people had a genius vision of the future to come years and decades before. This show the amazing power of the human mind if it used to the best of its abilities. Books are a treasure, reading them should be on anybody's list if they want to evolve
