Fourteen Farmers Perished in Taraba State in the eve of 62nd Nigeria Independent Celebration

Nigeria on Saturday being 1st of October, celebrated their 62nd independent as a sovereign nation. God has blessed Nigeria with several resources both onshore and offshore including Huma resources of over two hundred million people (200,000,000) which form a good labour force ranging from great Teachers, engineers, doctors, security personnels and all others sector of labors including outstanding businessmen in the country. The only problem of Nigeria is bad governance as result of selfish politicians who overlooked masses cries on insecurity. Yet, o still believe in new Nigeria has it clock 62nd of independency and there's good-news for the forth-coming 2023 general election. On Saturday, millions of Nigerians were celebrating it's nation's independency while some families were crying over the dead of their love ones who lost the lives in the water while going to farm to harvest some farm produces.

Taraba State is one of the states in Nigeria with high records of floods due to lack of drainage and water channels so when it's a rainy season as this in Nigeria, the state suffers the most, which usually claimed many lives and destruction of farmlands and other properties. Sadly for some of the the farmers who went to farmlands to harvest their flooded farm crops met with their waterloo. Over fifty farmers paddled their canoes to farms in Gwamtamu village in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State but unfortunately, the boat mishaped while they were returning home as the flood keeps increasing it's tide due to heavy rain fall. It is high time government should take proactive steps by partnering with international organizations to prevent flood by providing drainage and other water channels in the state.

Over twelve (12) canoes which convey over fifty farmers as usual from different locations to harvest their maize near River Benue was submerged by water and the canoes capsized due to high wind and rainfall. Meanwhile, most of them were not after to swim, neither were they with life saving equipment leading to the death of many which fourteen dead bodies were recovered and some are missing. This is became a regular event which usually occurs during this season in Nigeria. Similarly, over thirty farmers lost their lives two years in the in River Benue which not only creating fear but hunger and shortage of farm produces in the market.

There were about 50 farmers inside the canoes and majority of them fell from the canoe inside the water. As of Saturday, only 15 bodies had been recovered while many were still missing.
