Ist die Erde eine Kugel?
Nein
Sie ist eine Kartoffel - übrigens auch nichts Neues:
In der Schule haben wir gelernt, die Gestalt der Erde sei eine an den Polen abgeplattete Kugel. Doch die Wissenschaft schreitet fort, neue Geräte und Methoden ermöglichen neue Erkenntnisse. Wissenschaftler des weltweit angesehenen GeoForschungsZentrums (GFZ) in Potsdam haben im Jahre 2004 bekanntgegeben, dass die unterschiedlich wirkende Schwerkraft der Erde selbst auf der ebenen Fläche des Meeres Höhenunterschiede bis 100 Meter bewirken kann und man deshalb die Gestalt der Erde eher mit einer Kartoffel als mit einer Kugel vergleichen müsse. So ging dieses neue Erdmodell als "Potsdamer Kartoffel" durch die Medien und in die Geowissenschaften ein.

In school we learned that the shape of the earth is a sphere flattened at the poles. But science is advancing, and new equipment and methods are making new discoveries possible. In 2004, scientists at the world-renowned GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) in Potsdam announced that the Earth's different gravitational forces can cause differences in height of up to 100 meters, even on the flat surface of the sea, and that the shape of the Earth should therefore be compared to a potato rather than a sphere. Thus, this new earth model went through the media and into the geosciences as the "Potsdam potato".

aber gut, dass es dir aufgefallen ist - mir geht es auch gar nicht so sehr um das Thema/ die Wissenschaft selbst sondern vielmehr um die Memviren, vor allem in Verbindung mit den Medien
hätte da wohl doch noch mehr Screenshots der Überschriften von Google zeigen sollen ^^ spannend wie die Implikationen allgemein wirken - aber allgemein wird eh impliziert, wir wüssten bereits über alles bescheid :)
