Busy Day, Rain, Get Togethers - Sunday

in ecoTrain3 years ago

First thing in the morning yesterday we headed to town to meet a couple of friends who are just starting their 3.5 week long road trip around the country looking at colleges with their daughter. They started from Vancouver WA just north of Portland and are heading to the NE before making their way down to Texas and then heading back to WA. We drove to Frank's Diner on the north side of Spokane which is in an old train car. We hit it exactly right time as we got our name on the waiting list shortly after streams of people showed up looking for tables.

We ate and talked for a while until it was time for them to head out. Once back at the farm I got the time to go pick squash in the garden before we left again. 37 pounds later and me dripping sweat due to it being mid 80s F and the clouds and sprinkles made it super humid. It sprinkled a bit and started to rain more about the time we were leaving to go to our friend's house for the summer birthday party for their 2 kids. Over the day we managed only .05" of rain but it was enough to rinse some of the dust from the plants.

They do this each year for their kids and it works out well. Of course though the day that they chose to do it it decided to rain. The kids still played in the pools and with the water toys for a good while despite it being cloudy and not super warm.

The pinata was hung under the deck and aside from the bumps and scrapes from the wild swinging bat they all had a blast beating on the thing.

R has a solid swing. He was full on swinging for the bleachers each time and he connected super solid with heavy thumps. J was about as strong of a swing but R definitely is comparable.

Once it blew open they went into full grab mode and cleaned up the pile of candy quickly.

After dinner Jax was on the chair with @stryeyz and he was watching the boys as they played with marble run.

Today I am picking everything since it all needs it. I have to make sure all the 400 pounds of squash is for sure good for delivery tomorrow morning, get labels on all the boxes, probably need to wash the boys clothes, and continue the organization process around the house.

Sounds like a fun and busy day.

It was good to hang out with friends. It's something we don't do very often as we are very much home bodies.

Uffda, that's a lot of squash!

Thankfully it is all in CSA boxes now. I've picked 1140 pounds of squash since June 27th and sold a 1000 pounds of it.
