The best kind of action... - Answering @ecotrain's QOTW.

in ecoTrain4 years ago

This world depends on our actions. It's running by our actions. But it's hard to say what action works better. Coz there are so many ways to pull up/solve a thing, many times we can't be sure what will work.

I was asking myself if there's any certain answer to this.

From my understanding, we take action on the basis of the problem. For example, if there's a hungry man asking for some food I would help in person not write about it in my blog or not ask others to sign the petition. On the other hand, when it comes to bigger problems like climate change or child abuse, when we can't fight alone we need to find other ways to make our voice heard.

However, if I am more precise on this I have to say that I'm more on the side of direct action (if possible). I know many of the time it's not possible for a different reason.

Like a few years ago, I came to realize one of our neighbors abuses his toddler. I couldn't start an argument with the family. Because I know this will make things worse for the child. There's no 'child support' department like the USA in my country. So that was not an option. Rather, I talked with the homeowner, other neighbors to counsel that family, make them understand what they are doing wrong. You know, many still think that spanking kids is a good way to teach them.

So in this case, I didn't/couldn't take any direct action but followed a passive way to help the victim.

Just like this case action depends on the problem, this is what I believe.

And I agree with @ecotrain that I'm not on the side of the petition or any such kind of useless/less effective action. Also, protesting when it never makes an impact for a long period of time seems less effective to me. Like climate change issues. I believe, rather than protesting on the street, we should enforce the government officials, the authority/people related to it directly.

I understand that it's not always possible for us to take the best action. But we should keep in mind whether or not we are consciously ignoring the best action and going for the easy way like a petition. This process will help to eliminate what is less effective and will help us to choose what is best for us, for others, and for the world as a whole.

What do you think?
