Food, food, food

Since I have moved back to Holland, one of the things which surprised me the most is the Dutch obsession with food and exercise that we all have here. Maybe this is indeed the way to grow old and live a happy and healthy life, but the road to obsession is absolutely there and is also something to think about.

And apart from that, the road to healthy food is unfortunately here not the cheapest one, so not everyone here has the option to work with it even if they would want so.

This and all a lot more in the Question of the week coming from the ecoTrain community. The real question is what we should eat to get the most nutrition and the least toxins in there, and I believe that that answer is not such straight lined as everyone seems to think.

When thinking about least toxins it is easier to see in which direction you should move. Ditch all processed food and go for everything fresh and healthy and that should keep you fine. But as always there are enough exceptions to all of this.

But when thinking about what gives you the most nutritions (and I am not a dietician at all) that is a topic everyone thinks to have the perfect non debatable answer to. That is a bit of the problem with online life and blogs at the moment. Everyone can write a piece about a subject they know something about and it is declared like it is the absolute truth all of a sudden.

And since we all need to eat, we all need to have an opinion as well it seems

More than often I am very annoyed in this #foodie-look-at-me-im-so-woke way of thinking, because there are so many factors to take in consideration if you are doing the right thing. Again, we all know processed foods are bad, or at least not the best. But when you see someone eating their superfoods here which don’t grow in the entire continent of Europe here, and everything has to be imported and the people building the fruits and veggies, are we then really doing the right thing? But that is something that passes by on the food police it seems.

We all know that overeating any form of anything is not the way to go. ‘Too much…of something…is just as tough’ the Spice Girls wrote once in a blue moon, well actually this is true. I do think eating a piece of meat isn’t a bad thing for a human since in the end we are a bit of apes down the line, I also do think that we have over eaten this way too much and that that is also not healthy.

Same with veggies, we all know veggies are good for you, but when eating veggies you do need to diversify it a bit. And diversifying doesn’t mean getting 3 avocados per day. It is just about getting everything into right amounts which actually make sense.

And then there is the factor that everybody is different and that this also depends on where you live in what continent and temperature and what grows there. I don’t think that that in winter times when it is freezing temperatures that the summer fruits from far away will give enough energy to actually keep you warm with it.

The other way around is the same thing, in a warm climate it doesn’t make sense to eat the same amounts of calories which are used to keep yourself warm for a bit.

Better said: as always moderation is key, and nutrition is the same kind of thing.

The good thing is, there are very good dieticians and nutritionists who can find out exactly what your body needs. You need to draw blood and do multiple rounds of fine tuning to know exactly how a body reacts to certain types of foods. And this is something which the average joe isn’t doing (including myself).

So how do we know if we are eating the right foods for the best nutrition? Well, until we use data on ourselves, we actually don’t know it. Stop pretending you do!

This is why we need somebody to guide us in the right nutrition to eat and be living fine. Too much of something in the body isn´t good but little quantity with the right proportion will be best enough to make you vibrant. Thank you for posting into the Ecotrain community.
