RE: ECOTRAIN QOTW 10.7: ARE ACTIVISTS WHO INCONVENIENCE THE GENERAL PUBLIC JUSTIFIED?

in ecoTrain2 years ago (edited)

Even today there is no clear consensus as to the extent to which climate change will affect this world, and indeed whether we are even responsible for it or if it is really happening.

This is not true I'm afraid. There is a clear consensus among many different scientific communities, and the one I'm closest to as an avid scuba diver is that of oceanography, and marine biology.

The mass coral bleaching (over 50% of the world's coral has now died) is an indisputable fact of a marked increase in sea temperature that has affected the world, and there is no evidence to be found of such an event ever happening in the past during a stable period of the earth's geological history. There is only one reason the sea's temperature could be rising and that is mass global warming.

I linked a review above, and if you are interested there is a massive library of independent reviews on the subject, and with a little fact-checking you can check the validity of the scientists writing these reviews: https://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?q=scientific+study+on+mass+coral+bleaching&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart

While it is true that some (despicable in my opinion) scientists will preach climate change denial - coincidentally often connected in some way to political figures who are using this issue as a platform for creating division and debates that they can use to split voting demographics - these bought scientists are few in number. They are only seen and listened to because the media love controversy as it will boost viewing figures, so we see their bullsht broadcast at us.

Anyway, all that aside, this is a question I can really get my teeth into as an anarchist. Tbh, I think that most activists who don't upset at least a portion of the general public aren't activists at all 😂

But I shall try to find the time to actually write a proper post in response to this @ecotrain
