The Big Green Question: Is Organic Really Necessary?

in ecoTrain4 years ago

Organic is on the rise but still hasn't found its way into the average household. "Higher prices, not necessary, you can't trust the labels or not available in my nearest supermarket." There are quite a few reasons why not everyone is into organic fruits and veggies yet - but is this the smartest choice?

A study from 2014 tested four American families that usually consumed only conventionally grown foods. Some of the pesticides detected in their bodies were linked to an increased risk for serious health conditions such as cancer, infertility, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, autism, learning disabilities and more.

Since there are nowadays so many toxins in our environment - does it really make a difference what we eat?

This study also showed that most of the pesticides we are exposed to come from our food. So this is something we can take charge of, we can make the right choices towards more health.

Let’s go back to the four families. After one week of eating an organic diet, the pesticide levels in their bodies dropped an astonishing 60.5% on average. That was just after a single week, imagine how our body could transform by consuming organic products for a month, a year or even a decade! With knowledge comes the power and responsibility to make better decisions for our future. Let’s start today and buy organic.

I am very grateful that we have easy access to great organic produce here in North Queensland - as you can see in my veggie box. Hopefully you are just as lucky in your own area! And if you worry about prices of organic produce, there are such great organic co-ops in so many places worldwide that offer organic fruits and veggies for very affordable prices. Asking around at your local market or stores for whole boxes for a better price can also be a strategy to reduce your investment.

But in the end, it is exactly that - an investment into our own health and wellbeing.

Have a powerful day, everyone!

thanks for sharing this! its good to see some research information on this topic.. 65% is a huge difference..

NOW.. what im curious is where is the other 35% coming from?! <3

I would assume that those are still residues from their previous eating habits since this was just a test for a week and I bet that many of those substances need a little longer to get rid of ;)

But the one-week experiment shows us clearly that we can get so much healthier in a very short time! I am sure you will like the article by Collective Evolution that I linked in here.

ahhhh! yes great point!

Even if I can't really afford organic food, I try to cut down on some more expensive goods to be able to give the best to my kids. Health is very important.

A great way to reduce the pesticide content is to soak your veggies in 2 cups water with 1 tsp baking soda for about 15min or longer. ;)

Good to know thanks

If you grow you're own food price isn't a problem! I'm heading that way soon. I love your content and I am going to follow you!

That's so true and that's certainly my dream, too! But I am still living quite location independent so that I didn't get the opportunity yet. Thank you so much for your support! :)
