"Is The World Overpopulated And What Can We Do To Solve The Issue?" IS THE WORLD OVERPOPULATED OR RATHER OVEREXPLOITED ...??!

in ecoTrain2 years ago

It will be about 25 or 30 years ago that I saw a National Geographic program, in which it was demonstrated; and images were provided, of how the fundamental ecological problem for ecosystems is represented by the rupture of their interconnections, and the disappearance of the possibility of biological communication between species; due to human activity and progress...!!!
I explain, in my own words, what I captured from that documentary:
Building a road or highway represents a rupture that divides an ecosystem. Let's say it affects 30 or 20 meters on each side of the road. Let us conclude that it can affect at least 100 meters along all the areas through which the constructed road passes. Let's also think about the camps and deposits of materials - momentary - Some stay forever and will be the seed of future populations...
To better illustrate what we, human beings, do, let's imagine that - this affectation - occurs in the savannahs of the Serengeti !!!

Okay, the animals will be able to cross our brand new highway. Sure, some will unfortunately perish under the wheels or hit by vehicles. Garbage will be another problem, especially plastics. In short, basically nature will be able to continue with its program on both sides of the road.
Well, now let's imagine that, instead of a highway, we build a city - a little way from the Serengeti - At the beginning, that city has, let's put small dimensions, 25 km2 (5 kilometers to the north by 5 kilometers to the west.. .) Then it is doubled. An airport is opened. An industrial area is created...
People prosper, and those with more money, manage to buy luxurious properties, in new suburbs that are being created and... with the passage of time, our city begins to affect an area of more than 500 square kilometers. Then, our Serengeti savannahs can never be the same. We like to hunt; I think it's in our genes. As much as it is controlled, it will be impossible to avoid poaching. There will also be entrepreneurs who, with influence and money, manage to plant there, near the city, in what is left of the Serengeti. Well, in the same way many plains and wildlife, such as those of the Serengeti, disappeared from the face of the earth; Because of the cities, intensive agriculture over thousands and thousands of square kilometers, and for the last 300 years, industries have also preyed on nature.

The ecosystems that, before the Neolithic revolution, were perhaps like a great Serengeti distributed throughout the earth, today are precarious, confined and separated patches; defended by very few people with more mystique than resources.
Nature is in retreat against the overwhelming power of 7,000 years of civilization and technological revolutions.

Some years ago, Googling, I came across a page, one of those that fans of conspiracy theories like; in which it was explained how the masters of the world - that is, the richest and most anonymous people on the planet - had come together to begin planning, in the long term of centuries, the reduction of the human population; which should be about 500 million people. With which, on the face of the earth we are like 7000 million surplus poor people; because, in addition, these people should have high purchasing power.
Every animal is a predator. The same plants that produce their food are also...
The human being has become independent from the animal kingdom and his culture separates him more and more from his natural condition; for which human beings - undoubtedly - turn out to be a danger and terribly effective, in the unstoppable process of extermination of all wildlife on planet earth.
But; in the same way, I also believe, irreducibly, that human Kindness and Love are inexhaustible !!!

Therefore, we must propose, individually and collectively, to stop that part of our animality that we are reluctant to abandon: senseless predation !!!
I think that the cities of the future will be located in the orbit of our planet and I dream that our vacations will take place in a very varied and diverse Serengeti, which will once again triumph on the face of the earth.

I love your idea of what our future vacations might look like, intriguing possibility. I must agree that humans are such dichotomous creatures; predators with huge hearts, weird! It’s the big heart aspect that we’re hoping to ignite since that will, hopefully, bring much needed change. Let’s hope we can win this war with innovative thinkers, like you, at its helm. Thank you for posting in the EcoTrain community

appreciated @esoselegante

Human quality, more than a dichotomy, is an oxymoron; for we have a cruel kindness and we have a cruel compassion, as a species, and not so much as individuals. It is the resulting sum of all our shortcomings, indolences, ignorances; which is proving a calamity for the rest of life on the planet.
And it is vile selfishness, not so much yours, mine, or that of the other, beyond; but the vile collective egoism, that is to say adding the parts that we are the individuals, the companies, the institutions...
But, it is impossible to deny the kindness and love in humanity.
I trust them and I would bet my life.
