I had not imagined that My Demon would drag me as it had. I began it with the thought that I was going to watch one or two episodes, enjoy the scenery and then proceed. However, somehow I was able to press on next episode and I did not even bother checking the time. This is a play which possesses that silent magic, that pads about you, very slowly, and then it will not give.
My Demon is a love story in its most basic form. But it is not just about romance. It concerns itself with loneliness, trust, fear, and meaning of being a human. Do Do Hee is a woman who has been brought up in the environment dominated by power and hungry of warmth. She looks powerful, cold and untouchable yet somewhere inside is laced with loneliness. Jung Gu Won is conversely a demon and has lived many centuries ago satisfying desires and consuming the lusts of mankind. Paradoxically, he is much less informed about people than he believes.

The interesting aspect of the story is how their worlds come to collide. When Gu Won loses his powers and gets attached to Do Do Hee, the drama indeed takes off. It is comical and also unfortunate to see a demon that may cause you to shudder struggle with easily solvable human issues. Meanwhile, the fact that Do Do Hee is unwinding her heart, bit by bit is gained. There is no seeming rushiness of the relationship. It is cultured by the suffering but togetherness, embarrassment and the knowledge among themselves.
Song Kang almost fits into Jung Gu Won too well. His phrases move haltingly between ridiculous narcissism and actual susceptibility. It happens whenever there are some moments when he is silent though you can feel confused and terrified. Kim Yoo Jung as Do Do Hee performs very calmly but emotionally. She does not overact. Rather she leaves most of the work to her eyes and her silence. Their chemistry is spontaneous, as a team.

The balance of tone is one of the aspects that I also adored. My Demon knows, when and how to be light, when and how to be serious. The comedy appears to be adult and the emotional moments appear not artificial. There is at least some episode that makes you laugh at how Gu Won takes the human life. Other shows were silent pain especially when previous trauma and infidelity are brought to the limelight. The play also treats the reader honorably in a manner that gives room to the feelings.
Perceptually the play is lovely. The moods are not lost by the lighting, outfits and background music. The demon elements of the world are not exaggerated. The story does not need to put too much emphasis on effects since the emphasis is put on emotions and relationships. This decision causes the fantasy to seem like a real one which we can associate with.
With that said, My Demon is in no way flawless. Other minor characters are perceived to be overly underutilized, and some of the storyline developments can be understood simply. At times the pacing is too slow. Nevertheless, these shortcomings do not make the experience ruinous in any way. They are minor as compared to what the drama achieves.

The message is what I found to be the most memorable after my work with My Demon. It is because with power, there is nothing to protect you against the pain of pain. Even when everlasting, you are not spared of loneliness. The pure love is dangerous, yet curing. It is strangely reassuring to see a demon that is not yet mastered sympathy and a reserved woman that is coming apart due to trust.
As soon as the final episode was finished, the emptiness feeling came back. That has you about it, when some tale was made a regular part of your life, and now it is gone. My Demon is not going to revisit the genre, but it narrates its story with the heart. This is a drama that is worthwhile in case you are an individual into romance with a supernatural twist and you have a character who appears to be real emotionally. Then say me, did My Demon smile or cry or both?
