Cuando somos jóvenes y rebeldes, siempre soñamos con la idea de viajar en esta época y conocer lugares nuevos y exóticos, que vemos en alguna película o en algún canal de Youtube. Pero a medida que el tiempo transcurre nos damos cuenta lo valioso, lo realmente valioso que es pasar las navidades en familia.

When we are young and rebellious, we always dream with the idea of traveling at this time and knowing new and exotic places, that we see in some movie or in some Youtube channel. But as time goes by we realize how valuable, how truly valuable it is to spend Christmas with our family.
Cuando era niña las reuniones decembrinas era el acontecimiento mas importante del año para la familia. Todos estrenaban nuevos trajes, la expectativa de la rica cena navideña preparada por nuestras mamas y abuela, las risas con nuestros primos cuando se encendía algún cohete o pirotecnia, y los regaños de acuéstate tempano sino Santa no te traerá regalos. Veo esa época con una nostalgia tan grande en mi corazón. Que afortunados fuimos algunos de estar en un lugar así.
When I was a child, Christmas gatherings were the most important event of the year for the family. Everyone had new outfits, the expectation of the delicious Christmas dinner prepared by our moms and grandmother, the laughter with our cousins when a rocket or pyrotechnics were lit, and the scolding of "go to bed early or Santa won't bring you presents". I look back on that time with such nostalgia in my heart. How lucky some of us were to be in a place like that.
Mi familia siempre se caracterizó por ser una familia grande, y cuando digo grande lo digo en serio. Mi bisabuela dio a luz a 12 hijos y esos 12 hijos estaban casados y con mínimo 3 hijos cada uno. Solo había un soltero que era Sacerdote, pero el resto tenía un batallón que al final terminaba sumando aproximadamente mas de 100 personas. Se podrán imaginar la cantidad de comida, ruido y risas que se podían escuchar.
Actualmente muchos ya no estamos, unos partieron con Dios, otros migraron a muchas partes del mundo y ya la casa no es la misma. En mi caso particular, tengo cerca de mi a mi mama y hermana, pero aprecio tanto estar en navidad en casa. Es increíble como de adultos entendemos esa importancia de estar rodeadas de los tuyos, de sentirte apretadito bajo un mismo techo, teniendo mucho o poco, las navidades en familia es algo que debemos valorar todos los años, ya que muchos no corren con esa misma suerte.
My family has always been characterized as a large family, and when I say large I mean it. My great-grandmother gave birth to 12 children and those 12 children were married with at least 3 children each. There was only one bachelor who was a priest, but the rest had a battalion that ended up totaling approximately more than 100 people. You can imagine the amount of food, noise and laughter that could be heard.
Today many of us are no longer here, some left with God, others migrated to many parts of the world and the house is no longer the same. In my particular case, I have my mother and sister close to me, but I appreciate so much to be at home at Christmas. It is incredible how as adults we understand the importance of being surrounded by our loved ones, of feeling tight under the same roof, having a lot or little, Christmas with our family is something that we should value every year, since many do not have the same luck.
Este post se lo dedico a todas esas personas que están lejos de casa, espero esta navidad sientan calidez y compañía, se lo dedico también a mi familia, a los que están, a los que se fueron, a los que tengo cerca; gracias por siempre hacer de mis navidades la mejor época del año, por enseñarme la fuerza que tiene la unión familiar y por reconocer con gratitud el esfuerzo que conlleva esta época.

I get a lot of good feelings from my experience as a child and nostalgia did carry into my adult years since. One day I was blown away from what I learned about the real Christmas in the bible and now I can celebrate Christmas as a Child of God in a much bigger family.

Hello @joss236. How nice to share with us your remembrances of past holidays. You certainly do have a large family. I understand how currently family is spread wide, with some leaving for other parts of the country or out of the country.
At least you have your mother and sister close to you. Treasure that and hope to see extended family soon.
