Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right. In today's digital world there are more ways to communicate than there ever were in the past, it is believed everyone is free to express their views. The question which needs to be answered is, Are we really free to speak our minds?

Lots of people advocating for the right of expression, still we see people being silenced or persecuted for disclosure of secrets or giving news about things which are not acceptable to the powerful countries around the world. There are a few watchdogs who specify what to talk about, and they are the ones who set the boundaries.

The case of Julian Asange is very famous. He is the founder of WikiLeaks. He had to face charges for disclosing a large amount of classified US military reports and conversations between important people. Later he was arrested and prosecuted for hacking all important information and making it public. Here one can say why public can't have access to all the information which is kept secret?

Our media is controlled. We are being provided with news which is tailored to the benefits of our government. We have been brainwashed by our media and the ones who stand up for the truth are vanished or persecuted. Sometimes social media are hard to control, but people are traced easily.

Like there were lots of controversies during COVID-19. The big industries bagged loads of money inventing and selling vaccines, which has now been revealed were not much effective and up to the mark. The vaccines were invented in the short time period of just a few months and claimed to have protection against the disease. They were invented and produced in all renowned countries. Thankfully, that period is over, but people are still complaining about the side effects of the novel vaccines.

The negative effects freedom of speech can have in our world.

There is also another point of view to this argument. Freedom of speech shouldn't be absolute, although it's a basic human right. It can cause damage to public interests and can hurt someone. Sometimes it can incite violence and constituent hate speech can be harmful.

Sometimes people hurt the religious sentiments of others. Like in Sweden, the Muslims' sacred book was set on fire to acknowledge' the freedom of speech which only caused hatred and hurt to people around the world. They set up a contest to draw mocking pictures of the last prophet of Muslims. It caused rage in the Muslim countries. People came out to protest against the disrespect of their beloved prophet. So it didn't serve any positive purpose.

Conclusion:

In the end we came to the conclusion that it is a human's basic right to have freedom of speech but sometimes it can cause more damage than benefits. So a line should be drawn to decide how much and in what domain we need to have freedom to express without causing any negative effects in our society. People need to be educated according to the changing world, we are living in a place where it's easy to communicate but there are always consequences. So think before you use your power of free expression.

Media and social media MUST be like this and should be free from censorship. Nowadays, most media entities follow a narrative to survive.:(

Exactly @mirror15
Though I support Amnesty International, I questioned AI on their lack of concern about the case of Julian Assange but they are silent on this. I find their lack of position about his case very concerning.
