Desde los 6 años trabajaba en el negocio de su papá, una pequeña tienda de ventas de repuestos. Por la mañana iba a su escuela, a mediodía llegaba a ayudar a su mamá con sus hermanitos y luego corría a la tienda de repuestos a trabajar en la caja cobrando, mientras su papá atendía a los clientes. En los momentos en los que no había ningún cliente, aprovechaba de hacer las tareas del colegio.
Al cerrar la tienda, se iban a casa y ella ayudaba a su mamá con la cena, bañaba a sus hermanitos (eran tres), les daba de cenar, los acostaba y se ponía a fregar todos los trastos sucios. Pocas veces ella cenaba porque, terminaba cansada y con sueño. Así que se daba un baño y caía profundamente dormida hasta las 4 de la mañana del día siguiente.

From the age of 6 she worked in her dad's business, a small store selling spare parts. In the morning she would go to her school, at noon she would arrive to help her mom with her little brothers and then run to the parts store to work at the cash register cashing out, while her dad waited on customers. When there were no customers, she would take the opportunity to do her homework at school.
When the store closed, they would go home and she would help her mom with dinner, bathe her little brothers (there were three of them), feed them dinner, put them to bed and start washing all the dirty things. She rarely ate dinner because she was tired and sleepy. So she would take a bath and fall fast asleep until 4 a.m. the next day.

La tienda de venta de repuestos no marcha bien y el patriarca debe salir a buscar otro trabajo de tiempo completo y Aída debe quedarse en la tienda todo el día, mientras su mamá se quedaba en casa con los otros tres niños. Aída debe abandonar la escuela. Con lágrimas en los ojos, ella besaba las paredes de su escuela despidiéndose con la esperanza de que fuese por poco tiempo.
Soon life takes an unexpected turn. The spare parts store is not doing well and the patriarch must leave to look for another full-time job and Aida has to stay at the store all day, while her mother stays at home with the other three children. Aida has to drop out of school. With tears in her eyes, she kissed the walls of her school goodbye in the hope that it would only be for a short time.
Lamentablemente no fue así. Ni siquiera podía plantearse la idea de estudiar los fines de semana porque esos días no eran de descanso. Había que levantarse muy temprano a limpiar la casa, restregar el piso losa por losa y ella, como hija mayor, era la encargada de eso.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. She couldn't even consider the idea of studying on weekends because those days were not days of rest. She had to get up very early to clean the house, scrub the floor slab by slab and she, as the eldest daughter, was in charge of that.
Pasan los años y Aída ya es adolescente. Había aprovechado sus momentos en los que en la tienda no había clientes y estudió Contabilidad por correspondencia. Ella sentía una avidez muy grande por estudiar, por aprender, algo que le fue negado por ser la mayor. Ya los hermanos estaban un poco más grandes y podían ayudar en la tienda, por lo que Aída se postula para un trabajo en una empresa pequeña de Contadores. El dueño era un cliente de la tienda y sabiendo la clase de persona que era Aída, no dudó en contratarla.
Years went by and Aida was already a teenager. She had taken advantage of the times when there were no customers in the store and studied accounting by correspondence. She felt a great eagerness to study, to learn, something she was denied because she was the oldest. The brothers were a little older and could help in the store, so Aida applied for a job in a small accounting firm. The owner was a client of the store and knowing what kind of person Aida was, he did not hesitate to hire her.
El jefe de Aída le da la oportunidad de estudiar, por lo que Aída termina la escuela primaria por las tardes y después el bachillerato, lo que saca con rapidez debido a sus excelentes calificaciones. El jefe se queda admirado al ver cómo esa muchachita tiene tiempo para estudiar, atender la casa con su mamá y realizar una impecable labor en su trabajo.
Al terminar sus estudios comenzó a trabajar para Empresas Polar como Auditor Interno de la empresa.
Ella hizo también estudios de enfermería, de homeopatía, de corte y costura, de arreglos florales, de papel mache, de orfebrería, de zapatos, de trajes de baño. Además estaba en una búsqueda constante de respuestas. Su educación católica la encontraba con fallos, por eso estudió Budismo, Hare Krishna y finalmente siguió en la católica no fanática ni practicante, pero tenía su enfoque en la Metafísica. Allí se quedó hasta que conoció la Terapia de Respuesta Espiritual, que estudió a profundidad y supo que podía ayudar a las personas a sanar.
Aida's boss gives her the opportunity to study, so Aida finishes elementary school in the afternoons and then high school, which she does quickly due to her excellent grades. The boss is amazed to see how this little girl has time to study, take care of the house with her mother and do an impeccable job.
When she finished her studies, she started working for Empresas Polar as the company's Internal Auditor.
She also studied nursing, homeopathy, cutting and sewing, flower arranging, paper mache, goldsmithing, shoes and bathing suits. She was also in a constant search for answers. Her Catholic education was flawed, so she studied Buddhism, Hare Krishna and finally continued in the non-fanatical and non-practicing Catholicism, but had its focus on Metaphysics. There he stayed until he learned about Spiritual Response Therapy, which he studied in depth and knew he could help people heal.
A los 23 años se casó con un hombre oriundo de las Islas Canarias, España. Con él tuvo 4 hijos. Hubo momentos de mucha escasez en la familia, momentos en los que solo se podía comer una vez al día. También hubo momentos de abundancia y viajes. Cuando el padre de familia enfermó y quedó ciego, Aída con sus hijos pequeños, tuvo que hacerle frente a la situación, a la manutención y al cuidado de su familia y a pasar de los momentos difíciles, Aída nunca se quejó, nunca protestó y siempre cuidó a su familia con amor y una sonrisa dibujada en su rostro.
At the age of 23 she married a man from the Canary Islands, Spain. With him she had 4 children. There were times of scarcity in the family, times when they could only eat once a day. There were also times of abundance and travel. When the father of the family fell ill and became blind, Aida with her small children, had to face the situation, the maintenance and care of her family and to go through the difficult moments, Aida never complained, never protested and always took care of her family with love and a smile on her face.
Después de 54 años de feliz matrimonio, al patriarca de la casa se le diagnostica con cáncer de pulmón y dos meses después, fallece, dejando a Aída triste. Ella había sido una mujer fuerte siempre, luchadora, trabajadora y estudiante incansable. Pocas veces lloró. No había tiempo para eso. El aguantar las lágrimas en el fallecimiento de su esposo le causa un ACV isquémico y así comenzó su declive. Fueron en total 4 ACV's isquémicos en un periodo de 4 años siguientes a la muerte de su esposo. El último ACV, le ocasionó fractura de cadera. Fue intervenida quirúrgicamente pero ella no quiso volver a levantarse de la cama. Decía que no estaba deprimida pero el brillo en sus ojos decía otra cosa.
Pronto se comenzó a hemo dializar porque la inmovilidad trajo la muerte de un riñón y el otro solo funcionaba si se dializaba. Y aunque nunca perdió la sonrisa, el amor hacia sus hijos y nietos, su mirada era de infinita tristeza. Durante cuatro años estuvo batallando con su enfermedad. Idas y venidas al médico, hospitalizaciones repentinas y varias complicaciones, hasta que un día cerró sus ojos y se fue a reencontrar con el único amor de su vida.
After 54 years of happy marriage, the patriarch of the house was diagnosed with lung cancer and two months later, he passed away, leaving Aida sad. She had always been a strong woman, a fighter, a hard worker and a tireless student. She rarely cried. There was no time for that. Holding back tears at her husband's death caused her to have an ischemic stroke and thus began her decline. There were a total of 4 ischemic strokes in a period of 4 years following her husband's death. The last stroke caused a hip fracture. She underwent surgery but did not want to get out of bed again. She said she was not depressed but the gleam in her eyes said otherwise.
She was soon started on hemo dialysis because immobility brought the death of one kidney and the other one only worked if dialyzed. And although she never lost her smile, her love for her children and grandchildren, her look was one of infinite sadness. For four years she struggled with her illness. Back and forth to the doctor, sudden hospitalizations and several complications, until one day she closed her eyes and went to meet the only love of her life.
Era mi madre. Tal vez no hizo algo grande y significativo para la humanidad por lo que será recordada. Pero por su familia lo dio todo. Nos dio su amor incondicional, sus principios, su educación y sus valores. Siempre con una sonrisa, incluso en los momentos difíciles, mantuvo su actitud positiva. Agradecía tímidamente cuando le cambiaba los pañales, la bañaba y la alimentaba. Fue una gran mujer, la mejor que he tenido la fortuna de conocer y doy gracias a Dios por permitirme ser parte de su vida, de sus amores, de su familia. En sus brazos conocí la vida y en mis brazos, ella se despidió de la suya.
She was my mother. Maybe she didn't do something great and significant for humanity that she will be remembered for. But for her family she gave everything. She gave us her unconditional love, principles, education and values. Always with a smile, even in difficult times, she kept her positive attitude. She was shyly grateful when I changed her diapers, bathed her and fed her. She was a great woman, the best woman I have ever had the fortune to know and I thank God for allowing me to be part of her life, her loves, her family. In her arms I knew life and in my arms, she said goodbye to hers.

Thank you! It is always good to take a look at the past, our ancestors and their experiences and honor them. And that can only be achieved thanks to this kind of challenges. We usually live so busy that we don't have time to meditate.
