8 Trips Round The Sun For My Beautiful Wild Girl

All my girls are growing up so fast, my eldest will be 16 in a couple of months and later in the year my middle daughter will turn 13. But today, it's all about my youngest, who turned 8, at 2:45 a.m. this morning.

My wild girl, whom I free birthed at home. Birth is such a sacred rite of passage, it is something that really needs to be honoured more. And yet as the years go past, it is being honoured less and less. Birthing is a huge business these days. I have written many a post during my early days on here, about this subject. Because it is something I feel really passionate about. If change is to happen in this world, it has to begin from birth. From the way in which children are birthed into this world and then to the way in which they are raised.

We need a world, where people feel empowered and for those women who wish to become mother's, there is nothing more empowering than experiencing a natural birth, where you get to experience the full power and wisdom of your body.

I made the decision to free birth my youngest daughter, after training to be a Doula and experiencing a homebirth with my middle daughter. I had and still have full confidence in my body's ability to birth. It's the reason we bleed each month, the reason we have a womb, in which to nurture our babies before they come earth side and the reason we have breasts, to feed them once they arrive. Our bodies are amazing, our ability to carry our children in our wombs, is one of the most natural things in the world. It is a blessing.

I do know that for some, getting pregnant it is not that easy, for many different reasons, be it because of lifestyle, because of physical or emotional issues. There are so many different things that impact us all and they continue to grow each year. I just wish, that pregnancy and birth, were approached in a different way. That girls were educated about the wisdom their bodies hold, that we instinctively know how to birth, especially when are in safe spaces.

We are animals after all, it is natural to seek out a safe space t give birth, a space where the mother is honoured and cared for. Where her needs are prioritised. Unfortunately hospitals do not prioritise the mother, instead they prioritise the ' Professionals' who attend the birth. If girls were educated properly about their bodies, they would know, that in order to birth, you need to be in an up right position, ideally squatting, with support. For one, if you are lying down, you are literally having to push your baby uphill, whilst squatting, your pelvis opens more and you actually are pushing your baby down. So it's no wonder, women doubt their ability to birth their babies naturally.

I'm all about empowerment and as the mother of three girls, I want nothing more than my girls to be empowered. As a mother, that can be challenging at times, especially when they love to tell you that they are responsible for their own bodies and because of that I don't get to tell them what to do. My youngest loves to tell me this, if I try and brush her hair and she is busy, or even bathe her. "It's my body", which if course it is and I love to hear her say that, but that's what you get when you raise empowered kids.

But I wouldn't change a thing, parenting is challenging for everyone, as we all grow together into our roles as children, teenagers and as a mother. We are constantly changing, forging our own paths. I have loved watching my youngest navigate her way in this world. She is certainly a wild one, who is happiest when she is outdoors, climbing trees, jumping rocks. She loves to tell me all the time, that she is wild. But then again, I do tell her that I am wild too. Right now, she has headed off to her Kick Boxing class, something that she loves.

She recently got her first belt, which we thought would be yellow, but instead she got upgraded to orange. We were all so proud of her and she was immensely proud of herself. It is such an honour getting to experience life with her by my side. She constantly motivates me and challenges me, which really makes me feel alive.

Wishing my Wild Girl a very Happy Birthday.
