This morning, a patient came with the features of a stroke with left-sided weakness. I referred him to a higher center for a CT scan of the head!

Quite informative 👏. But how can one avoid having a stroke? What are the factors behind this clot formation? I'm not too good with science, but as per my understanding, platelets play a vital role in our body especially forming clots after injuries. But, in this case, the same platelets are leading toward the stroke. Let's say, I take aspirin tablet, as I have heard that it thins one's blood, so this way I can avoid blood clot formation 🤭.

To answer your questions and concerns, it needs long discussion! To prevent a stroke, we must prevent developing cholesterol plugs within blood vessels! For doing that, we need to keep blood lipids, blood sugar, blood pressures, etc, within normal range. Regular exercise is very important!

For secondary prevent (after an event of stroke/heart attack, to prevent further attack), aspirin is one of the most important drugs. However, for primary prevention (not having any stroke or heart attack yet), the use of aspirin is still under discussion. Some experts prefer, some don't!

Without maintaining blood lipids, pressure, sugar under control, if someone only depends of aspirin, not sure how much protection she/he would get!
