Life in Latvia countryside: what it's really like.

A lot of in city living, including some people I know personally, imagine the countryside as a peaceful place with birdsong, beautiful nature, and the romance. And that is true — but only partially. Life in the countryside also means work, adapting to nature, and everyday challenges that often seem foreign to city people.

In this post, I want to share my experience of living in the countryside, which combines both beauty and practicality side.

Morning — not an alarm clock, but nature.

In the city, people are woken up by the alarm clock or the noise of traffic, but in the countryside it is often birds, a rooster or simply light coming through the window. The day in the countryside usually starts very quickly.

My day usually starts with a cup of coffee. Then I fed the cat, the dog, and the other animals of the farm. After that I watch weather forecast and start to make day plans to don't waste time.

The magic and reality of the countryside.

From one side, everything in the countryside looks beautiful: meadows, forests, peace and quiet. And it really is, what could be better than relaxing with friends on a hike, spending the night in tents, having a campfire, and being in a good mood. But behind this idyll hiding work. The grass has to be cut, firewood has to be gathered, the garden has to be tended, and in the winter, the snow and cold weather.

Also this year the rain and floods are causing problems. It is impossible to harvest grain and make hay for the livestock for the winter. Now we start to think if we can't found any way to make hay probably we have to sell some part of or animals.

Life with animals.

In the countryside, animals are not just pets — they are also a responsibility. Chickens, sheep, cows, or even just a cat and dog require care every day. Unlike in the city, in the countryside, an animal cannot be "left for a couple of days" unattended.

For now in our farm we have 500 sheeps, 57 cows and 32 chickens and of course dog and cat. Also last year we start to think about goats but now with all this situation when now we can't get hay this idea is postponed.

Little countryside wisdoms.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I like to renovate or repair things, so when you live in the countryside you learn a lot of new things. How to repair the fence or some electrical equipment. You don't have any choose there is no shop nearby to simple go and purchase new things.

Pros and cons of rural life.

Pros:
Fresh air and nature always nearby.
Peace and quiet.
Possibility to grow your own food.
Cheaper to maintain a house than an apartment in the city.

Cons:
Longer distances to shops and institutions.
Work never ends.
Transportation and heating can be challenging in winter.
Loneliness when not surrounded by society

Life in the countryside is neither boutiful story nor a hard job. It is an experience that teaches you to adapt to nature, appreciate simple things, and realize that the price of peace and quiet is often work with your own hands.

I hope you like it and you found something new and interesting here. Thanks for reading and visiting my blog, also you can follow me to be the first to see my newest posts!
