I finished the Refrigeration course. I passed it of course. But this is not news to me. I passed this before, some years ago.
I achieved a 94% on theory and something similar in marks in the practical, which was to repair a kinked pipe in a live system that had a charge of gas in it.
The process is to safety remove the refrigerant from the damaged piping, remove the damaged piping and replace it with a new pipe that you make up yourself.
Then there comes a pressure test with Nitrogen...

In this case 8bar (800kpa) on the LP side is good enough.
Then you pull a vacuum...

Right now the above picture does not yet have a sufficient vacuum. The black needle needs to be below the 0 on the gauge.
In any case. This was done and I was completed... And I ended up with a day and a half spare to which I dedicated myself to doing trade test practice drills.
One of the tasks for the Trade test is a copper to copper weld on a 1 1/8" hard drawn pipe to 90 degree elbow.
After you are done, you file it away and check to see the penetration of the weld, ie: see if the weld is only partially bonding, or bonding a sufficient amount.
A 60% penetration on depth is required to pass.
To be honest, this is the FIRST ever time I am welding a 1 1/8" pipe...
I thought that I had botched it too, until I filed it away and...

100% penetration was achieved!
Wow. I did not expect that. But I had managed to do it! Amazing stuff!
Well... I am back in the office for three days now... I then go back on Tuesday and Wednesday next week to practice some more and then Thursday and Friday will be the actual Trade Test...
I am full of nerves...
Thanks for reading this post.
Cheers!
