TESTING THE SEA

It's pretty hot here these days. I don't remember May feeling so much like summer. The rainy days that preceded this heath wave made it stand out even more.

This opening photograph was taken by a friend of mine. In it, I'm comfortably walking across the shallows in the center of the picture.
After visiting the supermarket in our hometown, we drove to Liznjan, the nearest village, to take a walk by the sea. The sunny, summer-like atmosphere made the sea look very inviting, so I took off my shoes and walked into the water.
The water is still pretty cold, definitely not like in July and August, but combined with the strong sun and hot, slightly humid air, that cold was nice and refreshing.

After the walk through the shallows, I decided to take a look at the collection of plants that grew on the beach. In this enlargeable photograph, you can see the Plantago lanceolata, an edible species with some nice healing properties.

Here you can see the Lepidium draba plants that grew in a row. There is fertile soil under the layer of gravel brought here to make the muddy inlet look like an attractive beach worth advertising, so some plants still find a way to prosper in this place like before the tourism-friendly embellishment. ... you can see a lovely herbal arrangement made of two species. The aforementioned Lepidium draba and the Sonchus asper.

In this wider shot, you can see a bigger chunk of the landscape. The blue and white Baywatch tower is the most iconic piece of touristic infrastructure in Liznjan. Well, in my opinion, at least.

A bit further, on the lawn near the road, I stopped to photograph this lovely natural carpet ...

... made of daisies and clover.

Besides being unusually hot, this Friday has another feature that sets it apart from many other, less rare Fridays. Today it's Friday, the 13th.
The first thing that comes to my mind on a date like this, is the movie that started the slasher - mania of the 80' and a long series of sequels scattered through three decades. I saw only the first movie from start to the end, and I liked it ... well, enough. It was far from something mind-blowing or even very entertaining, but it was ok. I tried to watch some sequels long ago but got bored quickly, so I fast forwarded through those movies and watched only some killings
Today, while preparing this post, I found out on the Internet that Friday the 13th as a date has a bit longer history of superstition, but the day is so hot and I'm so lazy - didn't feel like going deeper into that stuff.
The only thing I remember from the Wikipedia article is that: "While there is evidence of both Friday and the number 13 being considered unlucky, there is no record of the two items being referred to as especially unlucky in conjunction before the 19th century."
