However!

There are many benefits in engaging in writing a blog at hive. I have written 700+ post at hive blogging platform, I hope that probably have some impact on how I write and interact. It is nearly 8 years of writing (with a year gap in 2019), so certain trend and personality traits must come out and even evolve from my writing. Recently, Marky created the hiveanalytics tool and Holoz0r created the Hive Report Card, together these tools are giving us amazing insight of how people's writing have changed or evolved over the years. Also, that is not the only thing. There are many other items these two tools provide, and I highly encourage you to check these out.

One, of the interesting item that I observed when looking at my word cloud, is that I use the word in the title quite a lot. I will consciously try not to use that word outside the title on today's post, and will try to minimize that usage. Nevertheless, it is an important word in technical writing, but there are many alternatives, and also there are restructuring of the sentence that can be made without using that word or any equivalent word at all. Here are the alternative that are common, but I don't use them often.

  • Nevertheless (notice, I used it above, and that was deliberate, naturally I wouldn't have used it)
  • Nonetheless
  • That said
  • Even so
  • Still
  • On the other hand
  • In contrast
  • Yet
  • Conversely

My goodness, there are so many choices, and that list above is in no way complete, not even close. These are just alternatives that immediately came to my mind without doing any mental gymnastics!

Anyways, I am sure there is a way to find out how many times I have used that word in the 700+ posts that I have written over the last 8 years. Nonetheless (😀), it started with the post below. In Marky's website, you can find your first post very easily, with just one click. There used to be a discord tool that allows us to do that, but that has long been discontinued. I prefer to have access to a tool that allows us to do this easily.

Early-on, a lot of my posts were on technical analysis of various financial instruments. When I started, I thought this is a crypto related space, and people will be interested in that. I had a long history of engagement in the financial market so I thought I can add value to the system. I am surprised to notice, that at the time I used stockcharts.com, a website I still use today sometimes, but I have mostly switched to tradingview.com. I am also surprised that I used a white mode! Due to the glare on the computer screen, I almost exclusively use dark mode on everything today. I guess, I was 8 years younger at the time! I also notice that I got 10 replies (I am sure all of that was automated).

I did receive 18 votes (all was automated). I also self-voted my post, which is a big NO-NO today. Steem (hive's pre-fork) was $5.58 at the time, that explained the $2.01 payout. I have no intention of checking the current price today :)

Reflection on last year's word cloud

I have also talked a lot of Splinterlands of the last year, that bit is obvious. I love the game and I am a majority investor in that ecosystem, so I must do my part to ride the ship through turbulent water that is Web-3 games at the moment. Lot of the other words are associated with that game, like, plots, grain, rewards, stone etc. I also seem to talk a lot about community, which I will continue to do for sure. The word 'account' is also interesting, likely that is related to my work on KE ratio and ethical part our duty towards the community and the blockchain. All in all, I find the word cloud highly valuable for personal and community development. I hope you find it too.

I am also surprised that I used a white mode!

This is a sin!

I also seem to talk a lot about community, which I will continue to do for sure.

I feel that we have skewed too much the other way and we should put more "Hive community" content out there, whether it be the metrics, the tech, the community, or just chatting about projects. We should build around Hive, not just talk about whatever else. I think Splinterlands should have a more dedicated space for a community to develop in-game, where it combines Hive and the game, slowly moving away from Discord for engagement. Keep people on-site, rather than spreading them out and use it as a way to engage new players and bring them quickly into the loop.

However...

;D

We we should definitely comment about the community. On that note, just learned that native hive token can now be purchased legally from US, via coinbase and aerodrome.finance.

These are most populat dex available from US. The hive there is Native token, and not swap token. It can be moved for a low fee to your hive wallet via Tribaldex.

A detail post to follow, perhaps tomorrow.

I have spend a lot of time on this today already

Oh, this is interesting, so Hive was added to Base?

This is fantastic news.

I have been pushing people for this for years. Lot of work went into this. We should thank SPS.DAO and @clayboyn

Thank you again for the mention. I have added a bunch of new features to my tool recently - vocabulary size, adverb usage, topic clustering, and a few others.

We are what we measure, and this is part of my strategy to constantly striving toward being a better writer.

Well we all try to do that at various levels. Yes your tool is coming along nicely.

Some years ago, when I decided to finally start realizing a lifetime ambition--writing--I joined a writing group at the local library. I was fortunate that the leader of that group was a poet. As a poet, and former journalist, the teacher emphasized economy. He had a list of words he described as 'energy vampires'. High on the list was 'very'. We throw that word around carelessly, and usually it adds nothing to a piece. It steals energy from the writing.

Also, with reference to what you regard as a 'however' issue in your posts: When we read our pieces aloud to each other we would note if the same word was used twice. Checking for that got to be a habit for me. It's not always easy to avoid using the same word twice...

I added adverb analysis to my tool last night. :)

I recently joined one of those such writing groups, and it has really opened my mind to how creatively English can be used!

I miss it. Hive in a way is my writing group. I love to get feedback because that means my writing is probably effective.

I checked out your tool. Impressive!

Thank you.

I am keen to see where the writing group can take me. They have published an anthology in recent years, so they're definitely proficient (and prolific). It never feels like a chore going to the weekly meeting.

I have a legitimate problem with certain words and I try to consciously correct them. I do a lot of public speaking too and while watching my videos I noticed that I used the word ‘right?’ a lot. I mean saying thing like:

You know what I am trying to say, right?

lol!

I have corrected that since!

I haven't done this yet, but I have a feeling I know what my word is going to be. I've actually been thinking about writing a post about it for a while now, so this might be the perfect time. First I have to check and see if I am right!

700+ posts! 🤯 That's some serious dedication to Hive blogging. Keep up the great work! 👍

700+ post? Wow!
