Where DId It Go and What Did I Do With It?

Sitting here just after 0200 on Tuesday morning thinking of what to post. Normally I would have a topic related to coins and stacking, or maybe something that was reflective or thoughtful. Things just haven't been in the cards lately for me to get much going outdoor wise. If it hasn't been the rain, it has been the bad air, if not that, then the heat. Sometimes it is a combination of the three in different forms. Then we have the occasional webble wobbles that I get. Except this webble, when he wobbles does fall down.🤣

So, yeah, I have spent a great deal of time indoors lately. I do have some coins waiting to be placed in holders, and put into my collection. One or two in particular I have plans to share on Hive with all of you, especially the #silvergoldstackers community. Just need to get my lazy ass moving and do it I guess.

Then there are plans to put the replacement camera I purchased to use. I plan to take some photos of my 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500. I am working on making in show worthy. It has been repainted, has some chrome work and new bedliner sprayed in. There is more work to be done, but that means money. Not sure why I picked expensive hobbies in retirement.

Been really down because I haven't been engaging as would be preferred. My head just hasn't been in it. Really, sometimes I open Hive, read through posts, look to start commenting and just stop and close the lid of the laptop. I have done the same with trying to start a reflective or #thoughtfuldailypost. Like today, I couldn't even bring myself to read the usual weekend-engagement list that is released on Monday mornings.

Yeah, commented on a few posts here and there, made a couple posts every now and then, but just doesn't seem like it is what it should be for the time I have available. Even if I don't feel up to snuff. I mean, come on, there where times I did feel good enough to open the laptop.

So what could be the problem?

It is my thought that the ability to effectively manage my time has gone out the window. I think once I retired, the fuck it all mentality kind of took over and this is what I am left with, poor time management. Now that there is time to think about this, time managment could be linked to some of my biggest challenges. My inability to keep a proper diet and exercise, not sticking to my daily medicine and test schedules. Improper financial and estate planning, and the list could go on. Yeah, that last one could really get important seeing I am flubbing up the others.

Not sure what it is going to take to start managing my time better again. Yeah I know some self discipline will go a long way. But talking about the traits that make one a good time manager. I used to be a good manager of my time. The military service made me someone who respected and lived by the clock. I made it my friend, not my enemy.

What are traits that make one a good time manager? How do you think I find these traits in me again?

Hmm, something many face and which many are able to turn around.

I'm no expert however starting small and working up to it is something you could try.

Try setting some really easily achieved time-objectives that you can meet each day. It will get you into somewhat of a routine in a very passive way. After a couple days of meeting those time-management items add in a little more and more. It will create a habit. If those things are easy to meet then you'll not have the issue of feeling like you let yourself down because you didn't meet them. If you start small, there's also no reason you shouldn't meet them.

Example:

Start by setting a time of day in which you have a coffee and do fifteen minutes of coin stuff. Make and drink the coffee at the set time, do the fifteen minutes of coin stuff and tick that box on your list which you have magnetised to the fridge.

Add one more thing to the time management/to-do list...maybe fifteen minutes of Hive comments at 1500h. Do it and tick it off the fridge list.

Boom, you just mastered time management for the day. Do this for a few days and then add in a third etc.

It takes twenty one days to form a sustainable habit, so in three weeks you'll be well on track.

Thanks for the tip. Small wins, I like that. Twenty one days to form a habit is something I have read and heard before. Should help keep me focused.

I was thinking about starting to do a handwritten journal to track and log my what I do for a few days. Who knows, it may make for some good posting material. I know their are tasks I accomplish, just not what I set out to do, or wanted to do.

People often try to take huge steps with something like this, but there's only one way to eat an elephant, *and that's one bite at a time.

A journal would work well too, tracking your progress is essential.

Yep, same problem I have. No self-discipline. It would be great to get that back. After so long of "doing as you please" then it will be tougher to get back on track. I have started, but I'm still in the baby steps phase.
I checked out your @vetfunding and I did not see anything there. I'm very, very new at PeakD so maybe you could explain that at little bit? I'm all for helping out vets even if it's just a little bit, which is all I have for now.

@vetfunding is an account that supports veterans on Hive. There is no posting that takes place from that account. It just uses its funds to support veteran users on the blockchain. There is a veteran community as well https://peakd.com/c/hive-131578. Neither gets a lot of activity, so it will be nice to see you stop in on occasion to post. We have U.S. vets, Canadian vets, and not sure who else.

@wesphilbin should be able to get you setup with the Veterans discord server and might be able to give you more info than I can on all things veteran on Hive. He is really in tune with those things here.

I'm so sorry you've been feeling this way Joe. To be honest, it's happened to me too in the past. The only thing I can suggest is to start tackling it one step at a time. I find writing a list useful and list things to do by priority. Make sure that you balance the things you like least with some that you enjoy.

Perhaps it's not so much time management that is the issue, but it's a mindset shift that is required. Sometimes I get stumped by things because of the way I think about them and it's the thought process that surrounds them that then starts a negative snowball effect. Perhaps focusing more on just getting one thing done off your list will motivate you to start on the next. That's how I fixed my car fan - a little bit at a time.

It could be mindset, but not sure. Some of the things I like doing, I just find myself getting distracted easily and then go down rabbit holes of sorts. Making the to-do list is something I used to do a great deal. I need to start keep a running to-do list again. Good job on the car fan.

Distraction these days is everywhere so I totally get it. To do lists not only help with keeping you on track, you get some satisfaction out of ticking them off and feeling productive in the process, even if it's just little things, it can spur you on. I'm going to have to start doing it more again soon too or I forget things and they slide off my radar.

That's a tough one... I usually have a list of things I need to finish today, no compromise. Once I'm through those I start into less critical tasks, but then again I'm still working. It would be tough if I didn't have something dragging me out of be in the morning.

I think that is the big thing for me, is that I just don't have that carrot anymore you know. Unless it is something like a busted pipe or something, it just doesn't become a priority, Like I told emma in my comment to her, I find myself often going down rabbit holes alot too. I think that is why I need to start setting some pretty standard must do things throughout the day using Galen's suggestion, and then start a running to-do list for the rest and start hacking away at things. Start treating it like a job again. Then give myself a reward at the end of certain tasks.

Hell yes, you got to reward yourself for the hard work! It will help keep your mind busier too. Too much free time can drive you crazy, at least it does me unless I'm sitting on the beach drinking some beer!

Hello brother! I read your words and I feel that you are someone very creative and with a lot to contribute to the platform. I have also posted after midnight when I have insomnia and have come up with my best writings. Like everything in life, it's good to allow yourself a break and keep living experiences that then inspire you to make and share art. Hive is a passion, surely there is a lot of path for you here. I send you a hug, rest and you will see that one day you will wake up more animated...

Thank you much for the encouragement. I think everything will be just fine. Some have reminded me of, or given me some ideas already in their comments to help me. I do enjoy Hive a great deal and plan to continue posting and engaging as much as humanly possible. It is part of my self therapy. Havea good one.
