Peter Pringle and Sonny Jacobs, both sentenced to death and later exonerated, were good friends of my father’s. That alone gave me a very good reason not to support the death penalty. Besides, I don’t trust governments—or their supposed justice systems.

Governments can't get much right, so why would it be any different in sentencing?
