Finally, a little bit relieved.
Had been struggling with the financial situation; now it's not over, but maybe 50% less than before. Whatever it is, progress is what I am seeing now, at least some improvements. The coming days are challenging, far more intensive, not because I got an increment on salary, but for the endless opportunities I gotta grab. If I don't do it quickly, then it's gonna be lost forever.
So after 8 months of being permanent, I got an increment in my salary, Alhamdulillah. For me, it's late; I had expected this increment within six months. But when I see that employees who joined before me have yet to get an increment, they will after the completion of one year. Even the percentage-wise, I'm getting twice as many of them.
Why so? Is it discrimination?
The usual duration is one year, which is applicable to all. The rest are the exceptions based on exceptional performance. So the increment I got is what I earned with my talent, hard work, performance, and contribution to the team. That's what our founder told me as well, two days back, at his office, “The increment you got is what you earned. I need you to focus on bringing in more ideas and executing.” Actually, recently, I did some personal projects coming from the problems our team was facing. I stepped up and solved them in my personal time in order to put my coding skills to the test and solve the problem. These saved hundreds of bucks from their budget, so why shouldn't they acknowledge this? If I get encouraged, then I might bring in more things like this one.
He told me something else, too, which I have some objection to, or I kinda disagreed with him.
He has a philosophy, “Focus on the vision, not on the Money.”
That's what he was trying to make me understand. Actually, this is his view. He left behind a job at a multinational company, which was earning way beyond my imagination. But he wanted to open something of his own, make an impact in the industry, not as an employee but as an initiator of something that the industry hasn’t seen yet. And that's what he is doing now, and we are helping him.
But his case is different. He has already achieved financial freedom, he has a lot of jobs pending with high pay, and he can drop his ideas and join a company on any day. Even now, without earning anything, he is living well off, rather than investing in the current company. What about us? If we don't get the money, we won't be able to pay our house rent, utilities, groceries, and whatnot. Even the tiniest cut in the salary would be fatal for us.
So coming from a situation, where every day I gotta count the money I'm left behind to live the whole month, it's kinda impossible to focus on the vision, not the money. Yeah, the money could be the vision, lol.
For me, money is the driving force. He wants me to put more effort into seeing the vision he is seeing. I will put in even more effort, but it is not likely to be aligned with his vision. But my vision is that with exceptional efforts, there are unexpected increments, so why not! He got his ways to keep going, and I got mine; may we both land on the milestone as both of them are tied together in one way or another.
So yeah, things are changing, I gotta change my pace too, put my complete dedication and efforts to climb the ladder even faster.
