During a work meeting my boss received several calls, he could only see the number that was calling him, he diverted the call, he put the phone on silent, the only thing that could be seen was the light of the phone that turned on every now and then, my boss looked stressed because he did not want to interrupt the meeting, he was so insistent that he apologized and answered the call and said, is it urgent or important?

How to distinguish between what is urgent and what is important?

My boss had to leave the meeting because he had a family emergency that was urgent, we were discussing in the meeting about the phrase, one of my co-workers told us about the task management method, something that is urgent requires immediate attention, but what is important may not necessarily have a deadline.

Something urgent that your child has an accident, that's what happened to my boss, his daughter fell and fractured her arm requiring immediate assistance, that's why he insisted on the call, that's what we found out later, many times we don't make any difference between what is urgent and what is important.

Do you think that urgent matters are important? Or is it a matter of time?

It is necessary to have priorities in order not to stress ourselves according to the importance because the urgencies appear suddenly, normally I make a list of priorities according to their importance, this helps me to establish what is more important in time and space, sometimes some tasks have the same degree of importance, it is necessary to distinguish between the urgent and important ones.

Most people spend a lot of time solving minor problems that we give the category of urgent and we overlook the less urgent but more important things in life thus ending the effectiveness, we must occasionally stop and ask ourselves which activities are the most important to devote more time, not always the urgent has priority can justify a large investment of time in situations that do not require so much urgency?

Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule?

I learned about this rule in the office meeting that brought up this topic according to an economist of the 19th century I do not remember his name he said that only 20% of the causes produce 80% of the results, what I understood from this rule is that if you have a list of tasks to perform can be effective 80% only performing two of all the things you have the list, the priority in the tasks is important to be effective.

Definitely the time for me is linked to the urgency and importance people have to learn to control the time according to the order of importance, undoubtedly there are urgent situations that must be addressed, but while that does not happen the organization time control and priorities would be a way to be more effective in life with less stress, just remember that there are also times that emergencies appear you did not choose them as the saying goes to bad weather give it hurry.

Every day you learn something new, it is very interesting to put into practice the 80/20 rule to be effective people do not need to perform all tasks with performing those considered most important is enough, the emergencies appear alone those must be solved if or if.

Good post ! The 80/20 rule is the Pareto Rule (or Pareto Principle), named after Alfredo Pareto. It's amazing how often it comes in useful 😀

Hi hello hello I found out about the 80/20 rule recently a coworker explained it to us ..it's interesting , thanks for commenting blessings 💚.
