Since the topic of Studio Ghibli-style images and AI-generated art is everywhere , I think it’s important to discuss it. I’d love to hear the opinions of the Hivians
In my opinion, we’re at a point in time similar to the late 1990s when the rise of peer-to-peer (P2P) networks made illegal music and movie distribution incredibly easy. This destroyed established business models, causing massive financial losses for distribution companies and artists alike. Similar copyright issues are emerging with AI today, but the similarities end there.
With AI, we’re not talking about a revolution in distribution but in creation, which is not illegal. For example, I can paint a piece in Picasso’s style and sell it as my own copy—art styles are not patented. However, to do that, I would need to invest time in learning how to paint and then create the artwork. The problem with AI is that it bypasses this entire process, creating productive structures in art that surpass human limitations. This allows someone with no technical skills to generate images in a matter of seconds.
This doesn’t mean that an AI user disrespects art or artists—it simply means they’ve found an easy way to do something they couldn’t before, allowing them to express themselves artistically without investing years of effort or possessing natural talent.
On the other hand, artists have spent years training and perfecting their craft, and it’s understandable that they feel this new technology is taking away their livelihood.
Due to the unique nature of this technology, we need to find a real solution. Artists should not be forced out of work (because if they can’t make a living, this will happen within 10–20 years), but at the same time, it’s unrealistic to ban a useful technology (especially since AI allows people without formal training to express themselves artistically).
My view is that we need stricter transparency, explainability, and regulation in AI models. We should know which artworks were used to generate an image or train a model. That way, artists can choose to opt out or be compensated for their work.
We cannot ignore the fact that the foundation of all these models consists of data that took humanity centuries to produce. If artists aren’t paid fairly, they’ll stop creating, and we’ll face a cultural and artistic decline.
Before anyone argues that we can just train AI models on data generated by AI itself (without fresh human data)—
That’s not possible. This phenomenon is called Model Collapse, which refers to the gradual loss of diversity and originality in an AI model’s outputs when it’s trained primarily or exclusively on data generated by other AI models.
Simply put, if AI keeps learning from AI-generated content, its responses become more repetitive, less creative, and poorer compared to the original human-generated data it was first trained on. This creates a vicious cycle where AI produces increasingly uniform content, losing the ability to create anything truly new or innovative.
P.S I asked Chatgpt to generate me an image based on my post.
The Ghibli trend is over ig
That is the difference between natural intelligence and artificial intelligence. AI will replace most routine things, but the real big question is not everyone can be creative or innovative, then how do they survive ? In future, this will have disruptive social impacts.
Indeed people have to adapt and fast.
A.i is evolving by the day. I am eager to see humans creative response to A.I hype.
I and convinced, Humans and A.I will exist side by side. However, for humans to keep themselves afloat their creative response, will result in to the world of tomorrow, maybe this is the push mankind has been waiting for to get into the next era of the man and his world.
My concern is that we will depend so much to AI that we will become dumber
I think navigating this new reality with AI as a main character isn't something we'll understand how to do anything soon. There are many grey areas and this technology will keep on developing irrespective of which choice we humans make. It's an interesting thought to hear this concept floating around where we just merge with AI and solve the problem on a basic level. Never gonna happen, at least for me!
It already is happening more and more people are using AI to solve every day things
I have seen the Ghibli AI stuff flying around, especially on Twitter. Ib reality I think it's sad that professional like artists are going to go out of work because of this. However, sometimes people do not really care except it's something that mostly affects them.
Almost everyone seems to be using it, anyone can simply just pirate the work of someone else even if it's not illegal.
We asked for it though. AI development seems to be trendy and everyone wants to hop on it.
I don't believe that they would go out of business because true art cannot be replaced by AI. But it is a problem that must be solved at some point
At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution there was a movement of "machine breakers", workers in industrial centres destroying new machinery in fear of losing their jobs. Their fears were not realised. Fear of AI is just a natural human fear of new technology. Even locomotives were feared at first.
Artists won't lose their jobs. Ordinary people don't buy their work anyway because they don't have enough money for it.
AI is simply a technological development. It can put various graphic studios etc out of work. But this is just evolution, there will be a need for new types of services and people will just do something else.
I wouldn't worry about the artists. Those with money will always prefer to buy an original work of art rather than an AI creation.
Yes it is true that people fear change and when something will change their jobs and the way they earn money the fear is greater. Art is not just a painting but music , photography , literature , etc . AI can impact all of it
just a note regarding Hive's use of AI.
Real plagiarism, that is, the Ctrl+c - Ctrl+v way of copying other authors' articles from the internet, must be moderated and punished. Violence, sex, racial intolerance, sexual intolerance, and similar disgusting and evil things must be moderated and sanctioned.
Of course, all other content, whether someone likes it or not, should be decided solely by the Hive users with their votes
