A few minutes ago, I grabbed this screenshot from the TV at the start of a new series I thought I would try on in the background (how I normally "watch" things) as I write. It caught my attention the other day in an icon of someone screaming, and then written on this streaming service.
Fear.
I get course language, or sexual content, or even portrayal of violence, but fear is a feeling, so how can the show contain it? Is it the portrayal of fear, where people are going to look scared? Or is it that the show is meant to be fear-inducing, and scare viewers. I don't really know what it is meant to depict, or what kind of information it is supposed to provide.
My biggest disappointment so far with the series, after watching this screen is of course, there is no nudity or sex scenes. So, I am not sure how long I will be able to progress with it.
And I am cutting this topic short now.
Because literally as I was thinking about this word and what it might mean, @azircon added an image from a wordcloud generator on Hive Analytics, based on article content. Weirdly, fear isn't amongst the list.
But looking at that cloud generated from the last 365 days, it looks pretty positive! Though, you and I both know that like the "fear" label mentioned above, without context, it is pretty meaningless. While I talk about society and change and better and future, my current point of view is pretty bleak. Another thing that stands out though, is I need to say fuck more.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
But as said, that is the last 365 days, and I knew what would be looming large if I went to the beginning of time with the search parameters and there it is, right in the middle.
Steem.
The word used to bring me a lot of good feelings (for the most part), but it doesn't even cross my mind anymore. It is like ex-girlfriends from when I was young, who seemed important at the time, but I barely remember them now. But of course, while I don't remember them, I am pretty darn sure they remembers me and I probably cross their minds near daily, as they look wistfully into the distance, trying to recapture a feel of when life was good.
For those who want to walk down memory lane a little and see how Steem trending looks, do so at your own risk.
Are you back?
Good times....
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Fuck is such a versatile word, so it really should appear in all the word clouds in the future.
However, (one of my main words used) the word clouds are fun to look at, but I don't feel that they tend to really give a sense of what is actually going on, because the words that overlap are going to be pretty general. Instead, rather than all time or for a year, to illustrate this lets have a look at the last seven days of my content.
As you can see, it is a smaller cloud, but it is a little more shaped toward the overlapping themes of the week. Even though I write across various topics, life tends to have trends that percolate into other topics around the same time. So from that list, you see engage, experience, and change coming more to the fore. It is not that the words are so different, but they are a little more focused, with some of the filler words like "actually" falling into the background further.
I obviously use "pretty" too much.
Which is pretty annoying.
And in the last seven days "Taraz" doesn't make the list. That is because while I do keep my content personal, Taraz doesn't reference himself in third person very often, but I sign each article with his name. So that means I have used it daily in the last week, but have used it thousands upon thousands of times in the last almost nine years.
And since @meesterboom just came in the chat (which is usually a little premature), I thought I would check his cloud from the last year - and lo and behold!
Fucking!
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
So for a bit of fun to see how your content cloud forms and whether it rains goodness like Boomy's or mediocrity like mine, check here and post it below so we can all have a look. Oh, and if you save the image like I did, rather than snipping it, it will save it as a transparent png.

Have no fear.

So I will tell you where the idea of "word cloud" comes from. The foundational concept of visually representing frequency using font size can be traced back to the work of social psychologist Stanley Milgram and his collaborator Denise Jodelet in 1976. In their study, "Psychological Maps of Paris," they asked Parisians to draw maps of their city and list important landmarks. They then created a psychological map where the names of the landmarks were arranged roughly according to their actual location, and the size of the typeface for each landmark's name was proportional to how often it was mentioned. This use of size to denote frequency is the core idea of a word cloud.
However, ((here is my however again)........so that you understand how I use that word :)) in modern times the usage in the digital world is attributed to IBM.
The term "word cloud" and the tool that popularized it, Wordle, were created by computer scientist Jonathan Feinberg in 2008. He developed an algorithm for drawing word clouds of social bookmarking tags while at IBM. Wordle made the creation of aesthetically pleasing, customizable word clouds easily accessible to the public.
IBM generated a lot of HR bureaucracy over the years, especially within large corporations.
Late 2000s especially after financial crisis, lot of industries start to merge, and executive started to switch industries, because there wasn't enough executive position in their own dying industry. Result in the proliferation of word cloud in every townhall and HR meetings.
Now it is considered a standard for "immediate feedback mechanism" after a townhall or a large meeting with a lot of participants. The users are asked to comment about the meeting content live based on a QR code. That generates a word cloud..
Probably more than you wanted to know! LOL
I didn't know of the Parisian study!
The IBM and Wordle thing yes, because I have been using them for years in different ways and for training sessions and the "immediate feedback" mechanism. It is good, because it is targeted, which is my point about looking at the whole life time of an account being a bit useless. But, it is nice to see that Steem pops up, but Hive doesn't. Seems I have pivoted my content a bit from being too internal looking! ;)
There used to be another site that did it here too, the one that also had the transaction bubbles. https://hiveisbeautiful.com/ - but it is dead now.
Always...happy... Fucking! Lol 😃😃
you can change the time limit
So I say lately you have been talking mostly about fucking kittens indeed!
PS: that is 30 days
Fucking kittens indeed, oh my god. That's brutal looking!! Hahaha! 🤣🤣
I wonder if "fucking" and "kittens" being together is freudian?
I was about to type young pussys but Jesus that's even worse!
I haven't had this much fun in a while, probably tells everyone how boring my life is! :)
I had a mess about with it just to make sure there was swearing in mine but didn't do any short ones. I really like Markys site!
We should do this more often. I was thinking about whether we should have a weekly post to have an open, silly conversation :)
I will support that. World can use a little laugh.
very!
:D
I plan on removing more general words in a future update. I don’t want to remove too much that I eliminate the character of a user but I already have a rather large exclusion list. It will get better as I tweak it. I do want to have a slider that can allow you to decide how aggressive it is on the fly.
For example:
I think
class = phishy
or
<center> </center>
I think these are artifacts of markdown, don't even know why they are showing up in @beaker007 's posts
I am working on removing these artifacts. The next update will improve it.
Cheers! Fun tool!
Your most-used word in the last week is "experience(s). Both "experience(s)" and "experience" are in the word cloud. Your experience-related posts have been more frequent in the last week. I expected it to be in the "smallsteps" word cloud for the past year. Smallsteps deserves to be there.
It is funny how they can sell something by appealing to emotions rather than the real content. Also, I agree with you on the whole 'fuck' thing. It is definitely a word that should be used more often :)
Fuck this fucking piece of shit with a... Nah, I haven't the imagination to carry on with a properly vulgar tirade to change my own trends.
TV series mainly deal with people's emotions rather than factual content, and they can sell something new by appealing to emotional content.
This is fun, but it hardly seems useful :) I guess I just don't get it...
That font is cute, I might have to steal it.
I'm reminded of a clip J was watching where two characters (adult and child) were talking and the conversation went something like:
Adult: you say "fuck" a lot.
Child: [can't remember what he said but there was swearing involved again]
Adult: [long-winded explanation of how overusing the word dilutes its meaning and makes the speaker sound less intelligent]
Child: FUCK YOU.
Adult: [while exiting stage left] see, I'm not affected and you sound stupid.
Child: ...
I had a quick look at my all time vs last year clouds, apparently "partiko" was in the all time and I couldn't even remember what that was (it's a mobile app for Steem which I did remember having on an old phone as soon as I saw a description). The last year tag cloud felt much more accurate featuring "apparently" and "actually" which I probably say way too much XD
I'm also trying to understand the purpose of the "fear" keyword, I figured that would generally be implied from the genre but I also think maybe if people are triggered that easily they should probably stick to writing their own stuff or maybe playing either single player rpg systems (I was surprised to find they do exist, usually in a journalling format, I kind of want to try some out but time) or with like-minded people (I'm sure there's more around but as far as I can tell from very infrequently glancing at r/rpghorrorstories, not many) so they never have to encounter any challenges in anything at all ever (never, ever, anything, and all were probably in the word cloud too XD and also I have read rpghorrorstories where the horror story were players pitching a fit because they were challenged in the game, they wanted to just breeze through/steamroll everything/automatically win and have the most favourable outcome possible just happen to them because something about the story is more important? o_O).
It sounds like you’re reflecting deeply on the contrast between the surface-level positivity of the “word cloud” and the heavier, more complex emotions beneath it. That tension feels very human — wanting progress and hope, yet feeling disillusioned by what you actually see or experience. And honestly, that raw need to just say “fuck” captures that frustration perfectly — sometimes language is the only release that feels real when optimism wears thin.
Steemit is definitely like an ex-girlfriend who still insists on being around. And in this case (nothing to do with reality, please), it occasionally raises the question: would it be good to go back? Or better not?
I liked the use of the word cloud; I hadn't tried it yet!
This reminded me how some manga authors use sound effects in their manga. Those effects are quite interesting. In that video at one point the manga was even showing Silence.
Buen análisis, y sí, a veces el miedo también nos habla.
