That was unexpected. A smooth Hardfork.
Lucky #28
I always hope for a smooth Hardfork of course, but they can be pretty complicated affairs and at times there have been some pretty major glitches. This time though...

Didn't even feel it.
Well done to the devs!
That is a success. Good infrastructure is when it is not seen and just works. Seamless integration into daily life. Which is why I wish more crypto users would come onto Hive and participate in the community, rather than seeing blockchain as just a series of transactions and hashes. Being able to do relatively normal daily activities while still being on the blockchain, is valuable for understanding and getting practical experience for the future. Start using it, not just talking about using it.
It is sad that other projects don't utilise Hive for their communities.
As far as Hardfork 28 is concerned, I don't know much of what has changed for the surface level users, other than the voting mechanism calculation has been simplified and there has been an overall reduction of about 25% in all rewards, including curation and block producer rewards. I am not sure what kind of effects these changes are going to have yet, but it is always interesting to see how behaviours shift. For the most part for me, I think it is business as usual, writing, commenting, voting etc.
You?
Of course, our behaviours probably should change when the environment changes, but until I have a better understanding of what has actually changed, I will stay the course. If someone has more information on what has changed and possible effects it could or should have on users, please comment, because I am not afraid to say,
I don't know!
This has been a relatively mild Hardfork in comparison to some of the previous ones though, where so many things changed it was hard to know what stayed the same. I think it is better this way in some respects, but I have to say, I also enjoy the excitement of the disruption, and all the fallout that comes with it, as people scramble to maximise again. The best way to combat maximisation activities, is to make many ways to gain, each with benefits and disadvantages. This also gives more diverse ways to interact and no clear path as to what is best.
More like life, where skills matter, as does luck.
My luck has never been very good, as evidenced by my life, but I think I have been lucky on Hive to be able to use the skills I have well enough. And because I find the experience compelling, it has also kept me consistent through all the many ups and mostly downs, for years on end. I don't think anything has taken so much of my interest in life, professionally or as a hobby. That might make me the most boring person in the world.
It takes all sorts.
Which is also why I find Hive compelling, because so many skillsets can be utilised to interact with it, whether getting involved in the dev or project management side of things, in the gaming areas or on the writing interfaces. And then of course there is the trading side, but let's not talk about the price of Hive at the moment. Still, price aside, Hive is far more interesting (once really involved) than other platforms and being able to own bits and pieces of the platform here and there, is definitely something that people should be getting a real hang of, because it is going to be vital in the future.
But hey, I can't force anyone to do anything, it is up to each individual. Many think that in order to participate they should get some kind of guarantees, but it is exactly this kind of mentality that makes most people renters in life, reliant on handouts to support them. Here, growth mindsets are more successful, and growth and success isn't just in the wallet.
Though, that's where many people look.

I can't tell you about what else has changed other than in my experience with the Witness software. I have started with v1.26.6 and went up to 1.27.11. The 1.28.0 and 1.28.3 that I am running now had significant performance improvements. It used to take me 30+ minutes to re-start the Witness node and now takes less than 5 minutes on exactly the same hardware. It also takes less memory and seems in general to put less load on the system.
So the code is definitely improving and they are making it easier and easier to install and run the witness nodes. Software really is improving. What Hive needs is major marketing dollars to place it where people are and I guess that takes millions of dollars...
This is what I was hoping for in terms of performance, so that is great. I assume the voting calculations put unnecessary load on the performance too?
We need several more rally cars!
This was definitely one of the smoothest ones that I can ever remember.
For sure. Great to see. Hopefully all the follow-up actions are as smooth.
I think that I used all my luck the one time when I found Hive. It is a shame that I did not have more luck- I could use 5 dollar hive. I am not getting any black cards in splinterlands either.
Even so some people have even worse luck. Like a basketball player who could not play for 500+days due to injury, finally returned...and after few minutes of playing tore his achilles again...what are the chances of that even happening?
Me either. Though, are you buying them? I don't think blacks come as rewards - though I might be mistaken. I am not getting any at least.
I am not rich enough to buy black cards. But I did buy some regular cards in Frontier league.
Speaking about purchases. Today I got a
lovelyreminder that my antivirus will be automatically renewed on december 20.For a small price of 129...So now I am trying to decide if I want to pay that much or cancel my curent antivirus and look for alternative. I heard that Bitdefender is good and seems to be cheaper... Do you have any antivirus recommendations? It has always seemed to me that hive is in real need of a messaging/chat feature and I think it's high time it got introduced. Maybe the developers have a reason for omitting that, but hive is first of all a social media, a decentralized one no doubt, and a chat feature is usually a core component of such. I know discord serves that purpose for the time being but bringing it onto hive would offer a different, even better experience.
The devs did a nice job with this particular hardfork. If problems arise later I suppose it'd be one the can handle. They seem that capable. We'd stay the usual course until something problematic pops up. Though in this case I think it works best to be prepared for possible extreme inconveniences, that way one doesn't get caught unawares when they happen.
Several interfaces have them, but most people don't use them. Are you on Peakd?
I mostly use Ecency, never knew Peakd had it. Ecency feels easy to use plus the Ecency points you rack up while using. I will try Peakd for my next post.
It is good to try different interfaces to get to know what is out there :)
Getting more crypto users to come to Hive is a great idea. I think it could improve our shared experience and understanding.
There should be a decent interface designed just for external project communities
I hope the changes will bring more users to hive and encourage people to be more active in the communities.
I think what we need here is sustainable developments that will bring people here and a system that encourages their retention.
Kudos to everyone that saw through the success of the Hardfork.
There are a few here already, but the problem I think is that most crypto users are just in it for a fiat profit, not for crypto support.
The good upgrades always surprise me a bit but most of the time I just keep doing my usual stuff and adjust later if needed. Hive’s been one of the few platforms that actually keeps me engaged.
It's just day one, I haven't seen any much change yet, I know as time passes we'll adjust to what ever change this Hardfork brings with it.
The Devs did a really nice job for making seamless and glitch free, I know whatever changes are gonna take place is for the good and progress of Hive.
I also find the Hive interesting. Although I am not an expert, I am learning a lot from it and I am trying to learn and understand a lot through virtual interaction with experts (from expert content). However, it would be better if more crypto holders could be included in the Hive. Hopefully, it will become very important in the future and the new hard fork will bring some good features for everyone.
It is unfortunate that many individuals has taken blockchain as a series of just transactional and hashes system. When I saw the arrangements of each each communities on Hive I was astonished, very easy, friendly (accommodating) and operational. Indeed a big thumbs to the Dev!. Hive functionality is meant for general usage and optimization.
As it I called a community it should be more than just funds and cash but rather interaction coupled with engagement, and when I mean engagement, its not he "HI" and Hello" type shit.
There are things cash can't met up with but words of affirmations @tarazkp from skill acquaintance to maximum productivity. Nice!
Thanks :)
