I think it also comes down to the method. Men are more likely to use a gun, women poison.
There is also very little mental health support for men despite lots of lip service, and seeking help can have punitive effects whether intended or not.
And it is worse now. There is something I have noted and brought up with healthcare professionals and they do not believe me. 2 million years of human evolution where men have laregely been told to keep their feelings private, but listen to women. And now they have been conditioned to open up about their feelings. Great. Except, women have had 2 million years of men keeping their feelings private and haven't learned how to deal with emotionally open men.
