Ticky Tacky Theatre

in Reflections22 days ago

My mind is running a bit slower than usual, which means it is moving along at no more than the pace of an old, sick, differently-abled snail. I think it is the painkillers, although not that strong, I haven't taken any for a long time, so I am not used to even mild sedatives. Because as the description stated, I think slow enough already.

While scrolling news with utmost boredom, I came across a story that in my slowed state, I thought I would just double check with people from the US, because it seems more like a trolling story, with images created by AI. Having said that, it also seems valid, given the current state of the US government and America in general.

'Murica!?!

Apparently, there will be a UFC event on the south lawn at the Whitehouse, with a temporary venue set up to seat 5000. Sure, while I am not a fight fan, it would be a pretty incredible event to attend just to say you were there - but really? Is this a thing? It seems to ludicrous to be real, but ludicrity is what politics thrives on these days and if anything speaks to Trump supporters, it would be a cage match on the Whitehouse lawn.

It seems like a new low for American politics.

And that is saying something these days. But this definitely demonstrates the "Bread and Circuses" approach to governance today. It is the military parade of the present, where many people just want to be entertained, paying little attention to what actually matters to even themselves. So many struggling to make ends meet, but are impressed by the circus.

Is this a real event?

Looks like it.

And if it goes ahead it will be interesting to see how many hardcore Trump supporters can afford the tickets, because I suspect they aren't going to be cheap to purchase. And I bet they won't even come with a free pizza at the newly paved Rose Garden café.

It looks like you'd have to pick up your own food when your table buzzer rings.

I jest about Trump supporters, but I have to assume that there must be a fair few intelligent people amongst them. And that makes me wonder what they think about all of this and whether the presidency so far is meeting their expectations for making America "great" again. Perhaps before voting, they should have first asked Trump what a Great America looks like, because so far, it looks pretty tacky and self-serving. Not America self-serving, Trump self-serving.

Maybe Trump is drawing architectural inspiration from Kazakhstan - a dictatorship.

I feel like we have entered into a period of society where nothing need be connected to reality or advancement for the future and instead it is all a kind of bad play of society. A bit like a movie that was meant to be serious, but the writing and acting is so poor, that it has become a comedic trainwreck. But, it is impossible to look away, even if you want to, because the screen surrounds all of us, all of the time. The main characters in the movie are caricatures of the people we would normally distance ourselves from and ridicule for their ineptitude and buffoonery, but they are cast into leading roles and given the power to make decisions for the masses.

I suspect the movie ends with a bang.

At least when that final flash arrives, the toothpicks holding our eyelids open will burn, and we will no longer be subjected to further punishment of what humanity has become.

I need a lot more sedatives.

Sort:

Well, they already paved over the rose garden I think, so nothing would shock me at this point. PT Barnum would have made a great politician if he were still alive today.

Well, they already paved over the rose garden I think,

Yeah, that is an actual picture of it with the chairs and umbrellas.

Oh, I guess I didn't realize that is where they were having the venue.

The line between politics and entertainment is getting more unclear to me, making it tough to tell what's real and what's just a joke. Wish more folks would think critically about these shows instead of just applauding them without question.

Applaud or scream uncontrollably in anger - it is one or the other.

Bread and circuses. How little people have changed in 2,000 years.

And I suspect we won't live another 2000 because of the lack of change.

We definitely will not live another 2000, but I hope our ancestors will :)

ahhhhhhh, old age mixed with drugs! :P I remember when i tried gummies.. i tried to watch an episode of star trek 3 times and still couldn't follow.. :P

:D I am yet to try gummies. They are still so illegal here.

The entertainment a violent, selfish person like Trump can offer his supporters is nothing more than a fight. Trump is losing control and will affect much of the world. It will take a long time to determine whether what he says is a joke or a reality.

Good, honest, and intelligent people don't want to improve or govern society. They understand the difficulty of being fair and dealing with people. Without them, selfish, evil, and filthy people begin to rule countries. Consequently, the film ends with a bang and a storm.

I am not sure how many good and honest people are left in the world. The system and economy we have created doesn't create more of them, it reduces the number.

America has been great before Trump assumed office, I think Trump's adminstration reduced rather than add to America's greatness. I think Trump is in the White House just for the power and influence the presidential position provides, he didn't come to effect positive changes in the American nation. I'm not a fan of Obama, I disagree with many things he did as president, but he was far more a visionary than Trump has ever been.

Trumps vision doesn't extend past his own reflection.

When it comes to anything relating to trump, it's not surprising to me anyone because he tend to do things that are in his own personal agenda than mostly about others.

A UFC event at the white house just for entertainment? I don't know if there is a moral justification to that given that alot of people are going through worst situations that need to be addressed but are not

Wow. I mean this is really sad.
When I saw this article I thought it was a meme or better yet a Parody, but then I googled it and low and behold it appears to be real.

Supposedly even the Wall Street Journal is reporting on this event next year for our countires 250th Birthday.

So just when I thought the building of a new White House Ballroom would mean classy events, this happens.
I am very sad that this could happen, but I think it will make money, and that seems to be the only barrier to cross to be approved these days.

I feel like I am watching the Movie Idiocracy, and I keep pressing the stop play button and it keeps playing.

That's absolutely right. It's a very accurate and eloquent idea. When politics becomes more about drama and spectacle than substance, it's easy for people to get lost in the show. The danger is that while we're being entertained, the real problems that affect all of us remain unresolved. Your reflection is an important reminder that we shouldn't let ourselves be blinded by the circus and that it's crucial to keep questioning what we see.

You are surprised about UFC match on the front lawn of the Whitehouse? Why would that surprise you, we already had Trump selling Tesla vehicles from the same lawn and did you see the Trump Gold Card? Now you can buy American green card for a cool million dollars USD plus $15,000 processing fee, no questions asked...
