For once....
These are not my photos.
Which I am both happy and unhappy about. Because if they would be mine, I'd be disappointed at the quality of them. But, I would also like to have been able to hold these little fellas at this age. It will still be a couple weeks before we can visit for the first time, and a month until we can bring him home.

The breeder chose which one we will get (last picture) but they are both pretty darn cute if you ask me. I mean, all puppies are cute, but these guys are tiny. Though, it almost ended badly before it really started, because while everything was going fine in the first days after they were born, the breeder discovered that the first-time mother stopped feeding them and they had dehydrated. From then, the breeder has been hand feeding them formula and a mix of other ingredients every couple of hours and will do so until they start on solids at least.

Snuggles.
This was last year's Christmas present for my family, where the girls were given "permission" to get a dachshund, with a list of rules attached. Hopefully, rather than it imprinting on my wife, it will be more Smallsteps' dog and she will have a good childhood experience to carry with her for life. Just today, she was saying that she doesn't remember enough of our last dog, and it makes her sad.
I grew up around a lot of animals, but at least in my family, they were more pets than "family members" as they tend to be here in Finland. I think that it is changing globally too though, especially since a lot of people are choosing not to have children anyway, but that instinct to look after something living is still present.
Dogs are pretty cool.
Dachshunds are little, big dogs. When it comes to their personality, they are all different, but all far larger than their body would indicate. None of them I have met are really lame, they all have their quirks and personality disorders, with an oversized ego that makes them fearless.

Be afraid.
Because in a few weeks when we finally get him home, I suspect that I am going to take a lot of photos of the little guy getting up to all kinds of mischief. And while there will be a training period, I hope that he fits into our home and brings more warmth to the place. A kind dog makes a home feel more homely and there is something to be said about the therapeutic effects of having a pet.
I need plenty of therapy.

I wonder why the mother stopped feeding them though....I googled it and well a number of reasons came up.
That said, it is an interesting breed, one am sure smallsteps will absolutely love.
No idea why she stopped feeding. A week ago she started somewhat again, and now they are little fatties!
Awe! So cute. I remember when our little doggo was that small. She was so cute. It goes by much too quickly and now she is gone. It would be so fun if they stayed that size forever.
Are you considering getting another at some point?
No, it doesn't seem so. Right now we kind of enjoy being able to just pick up and go whenever we want. I often wonder if we should have waited to get a dog until we were older and do more traveling while we were younger. My wife points out that if we would have kept putting it off, we probably never would have. Plus Jovi brought us so much joy, I can't really argue. It's been over a year now, but our hearts are still raw from losing her, and I don't know if I have it in me to go through that again.
Dchshunds are nothing if not kind. They are loyal and loving. Good choice for a home! I look forward to your photos, not those by someone else's hand. You will bring more love to the page. Congrats, I'm sure your "girls" must be very excited.
It is going to be a bit different this time with a shorthair instead of a wire hair - no trimming!
Very cute puppies! Good idea that you decided to get a puppy dog, I think with dogs it is best if you are the first owner. We tried to adopt a Greyhound that was a stray dog in Korea before and it was a big mistake!
Yeah it can be hard. My friend got one that had been abused (a St Bernard cross) and it was really scared of everything.
Aaaaahhhhhhhh puppppppppyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy spam as many photos as you want when you get him XD
Will you get sick of seeing dog posts though.... :D
What amount of cuteness in these photos, whoever took them is a lucky guy. 🤩
The breeder took them. I can't add their name here :)
They look adorable!
For sure!
Having a pet is the closest thing to having a friend, and yes, it does have a therapeutic effect on the mind. Smallsteps would no doubt happy to have the puppies and playing with them and taking care of them would be an absolute delight to her.
I am planning on building something in her room so that the dog can get onto her bed :)
Congrats on getting a new dog.
on the news some time ago I heard that people are registering their kids for dolphins therapy a years(?) in advance and paying thousands of euros for it.
Really? That is insane! :D
Poor dolphins... Just imagine the children they have to deal with, if the parents are registering for dolphin therapy.
When they are young, all of these puppy look very beautiful and are very cute. However, it is a very good thing that this method of feeding them a mixture is used to eliminate their dehydration. Great work.
All puppies are cute! They don't all grow up cute though.
Lovely pups! Good to know that they're receiving the care they require from the breeder as they are still innocent :)
Animals are always innocent - owners, not so much.
awwwwwwwwwwww,
HOTDOG!!
Aww these puppies are adorable Can’t wait to see your little dachshund causing all sorts of mischief at home. It is amazing how much love and joy pets bring smallsteps is going to have the best time with him.
I really hope she will have that sense of love at her age :)
