Be enchanted by yourself.

There are certain things we take for granted in life. The first, and most obvious, is that our life, this brief passage, is just that. A passage. We will not continue to live in this reality after our death. And for now, death is a certainty. But that certainty should not leave us worried or distressed. That certainty makes our choices, our way of life, all the more valuable.
A second certainty follows on from the first one I mentioned. We will watch our entire life unfold from the front row. We will be spectators of our own lives. Of the things we experience, of what happens to us, of what we do or fail to do, of the sounds, smells and shapes that our body perceives around us, and even of our dreams, fears and anxieties.

As spectators, therefore, we must not leave our seats to focus solely on the very best parts of the vast play that is life. We must allow ourselves to be enchanted by ourselves. We must laugh and smile at the moments that make us feel most embarrassed. We must not be afraid to let our spirit discover what in life makes us smile. If we cannot enchant ourselves with what we do, we must seek something new to do that will restore that capacity for enchantment.

The sea does not remember all the beaches it has kissed. Just like the sky, it does not retain the same colours every day, and is constantly changing. Change should not be a cause of anguish or suffering for us. Let us look at what changes before our eyes. We must appreciate the beautiful amber-coloured sky when it truly seems beautiful to us, and not ‘weep’ because that sky, those clouds, have dissipated, or will surely dissipate.

As observers of our own behaviour until we die, it is our duty. And as such, we cannot simply be enchanted by ourselves wherever we are, and not just when the sky is breathtakingly beautiful. If we need very special, unique and glamorous moments to be happy, in situations where things do not go our way, we will not be able to derive a positive feeling. If we allow ourselves to be guided by the desire to find the best in any situation, we will have a more positive attitude and a better emotional state to face any less favourable situation that may arise.

Let the enchantment of our own lives – and, for that matter, respect for others – guide our days more fully.
