Considerations on mechanical and chemical cultural methods in weed control

in Amazing Nature2 years ago

One aspect to take into account in the control of weeds is that given the morphological, physiological and agronomic conditions of crops, the cultural method becomes an important method for the management of weeds, which includes all aspects of a good attention to the crop, tending to minimize the interference of weeds, that is, to provide favorable conditions for the establishment of the crop and not the weed.

▶ This includes all those practices that ensure vigorous crop development and that allow favorable competition with weeds. These are: good soil preparation, good quality seedlings, optimum planting density, timely planting, pest and disease control and adequate levels of fertilization.

Manual or mechanical control is a practical and effective method; however, its success depends on its timeliness and mainly on the availability and cost of labor. In this way, the mother plantations where the production of the planting material (plant) is carried out.

The control of arvense is a delicate task, because it should be avoided to remove the cuttings, in order not to cause damage to the incipient root system, nor in the buds of their first foliar buds, as well as to reduce the risk of rotting.

The chemical method, it should be remembered that this method is not the only and by no means the most important and often the most effective, but it is recommended as a complement to the preventive, physical, cultural, mechanical and manual methods, making use of the combination of them, according to the situation that arises.

When herbicides are used correctly, they can be efficient in control; however, when used inadequately, these substances can cause severe economic losses in the crop and mainly irreparable to the environment.
