My summer days are mostly blue ... there is a lot of this color around here ...
... the blue of the sky ... the shades of distant lands ... and the blue of the sea ...
... are often broken just by small fragments of white ... from the elusive, shape shifting clouds ...
... the low flying seagulls ...
(Enlargeable)
... or some boats and the waves they make while passing by.
To nicely complement the big blue of the sea and the distance ...
... the coastline has a lot of yellow ...
... and other warm, earthy colors on display.
Here, on the yellow and bright green shades of the Euphorbia cyparissias plant, ants are feeding on nectar ...
... and some minuscule jumping spider is ready for the great leap forward ...
(Enlargeable)
... while in the blue of the sea not far from there ...
... the seagulls (of the Larus michahellis species) ...
... and the cormorants (of the European shag - Phalacrocorax aristotelis species) ...
... are swarming ... hunting ...
... and then resting on the rocks ...
... while people in small boats are passing by ... searching for small, sandy inlets ... or similar, highly enjoyable spots on the coastline.
There is some kind of ridge formed by erosion of the terrain along the coast, with many holes in it. Those holes were made by birds, the Bee eaters, more than a decade ago, when a farm was here, a large herd of goats and a group of horses, and many flies were buzzing around so there was a lot of food for the birds.
Now those holes in the ground are used by other animals...
... like snakes, ad example.
(Enlargeable)
Almost every hole has one.
These are the Four-lined snakes (Elaphe quatuorlineata), the biggest snakes in this area ... very often about 2 meters long.
The snake on these last few photographs was ready to shed the old skin. That's why her eyes look like eyes of some monster ... or a Zombie snake. Normally they don't have scary eyes, and generally are pretty calm, non-venomous and totally harmless.
But ... as you can see in this short video, when shedding the skin the snake feels vulnerable, and therefore is more defensive ... and so, in combination with those weird eyes, appears more aggressive than it really is.

After taking this series of shots and the video, I went back to the sea, to do some more swimming and snorkeling.

When I returned ... in the evening ... I found the shedded skin.

It was a pretty long empty skin.

This much smaller hole has an interestingly shaped entrance ...

... it looks a bit like something made by humans, an entrance to some ancient temple maybe ... or something like that.

Paper wasps of the Polistes gallicus species have built their nest here.

Two wasps are guarding the elegant, lightweight architecture ...

... that hangs from the ceiling ...

... like a disco ball or some kind of chandelier.

I took this shot on the sunny afternoon ... using the flash to create a weird, crepuscular atmosphere. This is the Scarce Swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius) resting on the Wild carrot flower ... and this is also the intro for the evening chapter of this post.

Once upon a time, when this was another country, Yugoslavia ... this was a restricted, military area. This old rusted watchtower is a reminder of that period.

Often you can see birds resting up there ... crows or seagulls during the day ...

... and later ... on an evening like this - owls.

This is the small Athene noctua ...

... a very common species here.

Various small birds are very actively twitting around in these moments before the dark. I don't know the name of this species, never noticed it before this shot was taken, a few days ago.

There is an abandoned building near the tower...

... surrounded by dense blackberry shrubs.

It looks like a haunted house ...

... especially if you are experiencing it from the inside.

It's a cool, decaying interior ... filled with weird, scary and poetic details.

The plants are sprouting from the floor.

The sky is entering freely from the broken ceiling.

A cheap plastic badminton ball fell from another planet...

... and now is laying in the dust ... like a weird skeleton of some small alien creature.

There is something surprising in every room ...

... and is easy to see a ghost here.

There is an old swallow nest in the pink room ...

... and a room that looks like horror aquarium ... with the hungry shark swimming around.

Every room is in a different state of decay.

Every room has a different feel ... and atmosphere.

It's a nice little Twilight zone, a great place to explore at the end of the day.

As always in these posts on HIVE, all the photographs and video materials are my work.

very wonderful that without a word of the beauty of nature
:)
What a fantastic story and the array of photos are absolutely amazing that snake might be harmless but would still scare the shit out of me 👀
Thanks. :) True, those snakes look impressive. Is easy to forget that are harmless :)
Your welcome yes certainly don't look harmless but it's always the scary looking things that are harmless..lol 😂
:)

Thanks :) glad you like this photo report from my area.
Oh wow, I really didn't see that owl until you zoomed in a lot closer - you really took me with you on your journey :)
:)
Very beautiful blue sea and blue sky with those noisy seagulls! The first photo is very eye catching! The second one us very funny looking like a big bird’s dropping floating around!
That owl is very cute but I was surprised your local snake is so big. 2 m!!
That haunted place is a no, no to me! Life in your town is never boring as you have the sea and all the spiders!
:) Is the only species here that is so big ... all the other snakes are kind of normal ... but there are two venomous species too ... and only one colorful species with red patterns ... the snakes here are mostly brown, gray, earthy colors.
:D True, with the sea, spiders and monsters life is never boring.
